Back in February we heard news that claimed that Detroit rapper Eminem would be releasing a new album after Memorial Day of this year but here we are in mid-August and there is no new album in sight. Back in June, tho, we got to hear a snippet of a new song that Em was reportedly working on for his as-yet unannounced album but news about Slim Shady and his music has been pretty light this year thus far. Eminem made a surprise appearance/performance last week in NYC at a private event called Shock the World which was a 30th anniversary celebration for G-Shock Watches but he performed no new music. Today, at long last, we FINALLY get to hear a new song from Eminem that will be featured on the forthcoming soundtrack to the video game Call of Duty: Ghosts. Click below to hear this new song, titled Survival, in full and learn more about Em’s reported plans to release more music soon.
Eminem has returned with “Survival,” a new non-single that will appear in the upcoming video game “Call Of Duty: Ghosts” as well as on the rapper’s next studio album. “Survival” was released in full on Eminem’s official website on Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 14) and appears in a new trailer for “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” also released on Wednesday.
“Survival” is another snarling epic from the “Not Afraid” rapper, with a hook — “This is survival of the fittest” — very apropos of the ultra-popular military game. In the furious second verse, Em advises his competition, “You better trade your fucking mic’s in for some toolboxes/’Cuz you’ll never take my prize from me, it’ll have to be pried from me, so pull out your pliers and your screwdrivers!” Eminem’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2010’s “Recovery” album does not yet have a release date, but according to a press release, “An announcement regarding the new album and its first single is expected soon.” Activision’s “Call of Duty: Ghosts” is due out on various gaming platforms on Nov. 5. “Survival” was officially premiered on Wednesday during a live, multiplayer event for the game that was broadcast worldwide.
Yessssss, this song is sick. I don’t always love all the music that Eminem puts out but he has a knack for writing really infectious and addicting singles. If Survival is a sign of what’s to come on his new album then I am REALLY anxious for its release. After I heard that Em made a surprise appearance/performance in NYC last week, I was certain that we’d be hearing new music soon … and then this single came out of nowhere. We didn’t get a new Eminem album back in May but I suppose that any album release from here on will technically be “after Memorial Day” so we must continue to wait. I think it’s pretty evident that Eminem will release his next album sometime this year so we won’t have to wait much longer. As for Survival, what do y’all think? Do you like it? Does it make you excited to hear more music from Slim Shady?
