First Listen: Frank Ocean Features On John Mayer’s New Song ‘Wildfire’

John Mayer has a new album out this month which features guest performances by his current ladylove Katy Perry and BFF Frank Ocean. The track that features Ocean is titled Wildfire and is only a minute and a half long … but it’s a beautiful and heartbreakingly sad song. As you may know, Mayer played guitar on Frank Ocean’s debut album and backed him up when Frank performed on Saturday Night Live last year. It sounds like Ocean wanted to return the favor by appearing on John’s album. Click the embed above to hear Wildfire in full. Altho short, the song is very, very bittersweet.

Sorry Trent, but what is your source on this? I think this is just an case of two songs by two oft collaborated artists happening to have the same name.

Mayer’s song Wildfire has already been released and as you can hear here is entirely different.

This Frank Ocean piece is still lovely but my assumption is that it will be no where near JM’s new album.

    • @Jamie Murphy — “Hidden on John Mayer’s new album, Paradise Valley, Frank Ocean’s one minute, 28 second “Wildfire” is a sparse interlude that takes a dangerous trip. “Back in Paris you told me you were suicidal / It’s not a vacation if I lose you to Eiffel,” Frank sings alongside Mayer’s harmonies. “I think he’s just searching for that kind of depth that he has inside of himself in someone else,” Mayer said about Ocean earlier this year. Mayer and Ocean forever?”

Thanks Trent, without the source and just the youtube video it didn’t seem so legit. Apparently the full album is streaming on iTunes now so I’m gonna check it out. It will be interesting to see how it gets weaved in considering how thematic JM’s last few albums have been.

There are two songs on his new album called Wildfire. The one that is already released. And the one with Frank Ocean on it.
