Last week we learned that actress Lea Michele broke her silence for the first time since news of her boyfriend Cory Monteith‘s death on July 13. Today we learn that Lea has not only gotten back to work on Glee but she has apparently recorded a special song for the show in honor of her late boyfriend and co-star. Lea teased news of the song on her official Twitter profile and then other folks from the Glee production team followed up with confirmation.
Lea Michele headed back to the Glee recording studio Monday, little more than three weeks since the July 13 death of her boyfriend and costar, Cory Monteith. “Couldn’t have picked a more beautiful & perfect song to start the year with,” Michele, 26, Tweeted Monday. Filming on the new season of the FOX show was postponed until this week, and while the first two episodes of season five will be Beatles-themed, the third episode will be a tribute to Monteith. The delay also gave the cast and crew time to deal with the loss of Monteith, who died in a Vancouver hotel room from a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol … Because the soundtrack for every episode is recorded in advance, it’s believed that Michele might have been prepping songs on Monday for this special episode. While it will be revealed what Michele sang when the show airs Oct. 10, executive music producer Adam Anders did Tweet to her on Monday, “you are the strongest person I know. That was truly amazing. Love you xoxo #leastrong.” Alex Anders, Glee’s vocal producer and recording engineer, also Tweeted Michele a message, saying, “You were absolutely magnificent today. I am in awe of your strength and your sweet spirit. Love you. #leastrong.”
As you may recall, we learned earlier this month that Moneith‘s Glee character Finn will be written off the show in a special episode that will address substance abuse so it’s very likely that the song Lea is referencing will be featured in that episode. I can’t even being to imagine how difficult it must be for Lea to return to the Glee set in the wake of Cory‘s death. To work on an episode that is devoted to his memory … I have no idea how she has the strength to endure but … bravo to her. I’ve long since given up on watching Glee but I think I will have to tune in to watch this special episode when it airs later this year. The possibilities are endless but any guesses what song Lea recorded for the show?
