Jenny McCarthy Joins The Cast Of ‘The View’

Last week it was announced that Elizabeth Hasselbeck quit the daytime talk show The View to go work for Fox News (good riddance, IMHO) and today we learn who will be replacing her on the show. Funny lady and sometimes talk show host Jenny McCarthy has been added as the newest co-host on The View … and she couldn’t be more thrilled by the prospect. ABC made the official announcement today and Jenny did as well on her official blog. Click below to read what ABC has to say about McCarthy’s casting on The View and find out just how excited Jenny is about her new job.

Barbara Walters said last week that there wouldn’t be a new co-host on “The View” in the near future, but things have changed! On Monday, Walters announced that Jenny McCarthy will join the ABC talk show in September. “We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on ‘The View’ starting in September,” said Walters. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for ‘The View.'” McCarthy, 40, has appeared on the show on 17 occasions, and guest-hosted eight times. “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table,” said McCarthy, who recently hosted an eponymous VH1 late-night talk show. “I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off” … McCarthy will join the talk show as it’s undergoing a number of changes. Before Elisabeth Hasselbeck confirmed last week that she was leaving the show, Walters announced her retirement from TV next year. Joy Behar has also said that she’s planning to depart after this season.

This is what Jenny has to say about her new gig on her blog:

YUP, I’M DOING ‘THE VIEW’! When word got out that Joy was leaving “The View,” I knew that the timing of my desire and her departure might be serendipitous for me. Fortunately, the executives at Vh1 also knew these opportunities don’t happen that often, and they allowed me to make the move with their loving support. It’s proof that I was working with some amazing people over there, and I will continue to do more with them — outside of talk — in the future. Now, I look forward to working with my amazing new partners at ABC. I start co-hosting “The View” on September 9th. I can’t tell you how excited I am for the opportunity to work with Barbara, Whoopi and Sherri. I will be doing everything I can to provoke conversation, make you think, make you laugh and maybe even spill the beans on what goes on backstage (like if I accidentally barge into Bradley Cooper’s dressing room in a towel). I might be moving from late night to daytime, but I’m just as fun with a mimosa as I am with a martini. I look forward to spiking your morning coffee on “The View” for years to come.

Because both Elizabeth and Joy are leaving, it’s likely that Jenny will replace Joy as the “outspoken” co-host so I’m guessing that a conservative co-host will still be needed for the panel to replace Hasselbeck. No matter, this new gig is a HUGE opportunity for Jenny McCarthy and I couldn’t be happier for her. I’ve been a fan of hers from way back. Do any of y’all remember her days on MTV back in the 90’s as the host of Singled Out and her own comedy sketch show? I may not always agree with her position on things but I generally like her. I don’t watch The View but I may tune in some this new season just to see how the new panel handles the news of the day. Congrats Jenny! Welcome to daytime.

@ Trent LOL re Good Riddance…. I thought the same!

I used to like her as a “funny gal”…but her whole mis-education compaign about vaccines really rubbed me the wrong way. I am all for bringing attention to important issuese, but you HAVE to make sure that you are representing the science accurately if you chose to do so. Jenny put a lot of false info out there, and I worry that some kids might be endangered because of it.

(I do acknowledge that if a parent takes a celeb’s advice without talking to their doctor and doing their own research they are fools, but I do think JM has a responsibility for what she says too.)

i agree. her misguided anti-vaccination activism has legitimately endangered children. her fifteen minutes of fame were up in the 90s. Fame like hers is never supposed to be more than a cheap plastic toy, but she managed to turn it into a weapon that caused actual societal harm. the view needs to have some real intellects on the show. and so far, they’re on the wrong path.
