Emma Stone Has Been Cast In The Next Woody Allen Film!

Earlier this month we got our first look at Blue Jasmine, Woody Allen’s latest film which comes out later this month. I mentioned that I’m sort of a new fan of the acclaimed director, having just started watching some of his contemporary works in the past couple of years, and now I’m getting into Throwback Woody. It’s been such a great time “discovering” his general awesomeness and falling in love with his work, and I can’t wait to get caught up on his filmography. Recently I learned that he’s already got a new movie in the works, and some familiar faces will be rounding out the cast. The Amazing Spider-Man actress Emma Stone was cast in the as-yet untitled project a while back, and she’ll be joined by Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, and Jacki Weaver. Click inside to learn more!

Vanity Fair has some of the deets:

Woody Allen will film a second feature in France, his publicist confirmed today in a press statement. Following the Oscar-winning Midnight in Paris, the new comedy will star Emma Stone and Colin Firth, will be set in somewhere in the southern half of the country, and will reunite Allen with his Midnight in Paris cinematographer, production designer, and costume designer. It’s an exciting casting development for admirers of the Spider-Man actress, whose easy charm, dry wit, and intelligence make her seem well suited as a new Woody Allen muse. And certainly thrilling news for Stone, who has publicly obsessed over her idol, eight-time Woody Allen actress Diane Keaton, so much that she joked to the Huffington Post that Keaton may now be frightened. “I talk about her literally every day,” Stone said. “She’s probably a little freaked out by me, so maybe it’s a better idea not to meet her because she’s probably going to have to get some sort of restraining order at this point. I’m kidding, I promise I am no threat.”

According to Indiewire, the rest of the cast looks amazing as well:

Woody Allen has added several actors to his latest movie, which already stars Colin Firth and Emma Stone. Among the additions is a trio of acclaimed actresses: Eileen Atkins (“Cold Mountain”), Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden (“Pollock,” “Into the Wild”), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook”). Rounding out the crop is indie favorite Hamish Linklater (“42,” “The Future”), Simon McBurney (“The Last King of Scotland”), Erica Leerhsen (“Hollywood Ending”) and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos (“Dedication”).

I am so excited for Emma! She really is perfect, in my opinion, for a new Woody Allen piece. I can definitely see her sense of humor meshing well with his style. And she’s got a lot of exciting projects in the works; we’d learned awhile back that she’ll be working with Jerry Maguire director Cameron Crowe.

Colin Firth is also quite brilliant, and I’m a big fan of a lot of these actors– Simon McBurney, Jacki Weaver, and I know Marcia Gay Harden is a crowd favorite.

What do y’all think of the cast? Kind of awesome, right? Can’t wait to hear more about the actual plot; I’m expecting some good things!

I won’t lie Shannon, what I’ve seen of Woody’s flicks I like: Hannah and Her Sisters, Annie Hall- it’s really unique but really works for me. However, he’s like the movie version of Kells- can’t roll with him on the personal tip but he knows how to make a good film.
I love Emma Stone as an actress and I’m sure she’ll do good with the material.

I love Woody and think Emma Stone is a perfect choice for him. Of the funny ones, “Midnight in Paris”, “Love and Death”, and “Bananas”, are my favorites. “Manhattan”, however, is, imo, his drama masterpiece.
