The ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie Gets A Release Date!

Call it Fifty Shades of Grey or Fifty Shades of Suck– whatever it is, the movie is definitely coming! Just a few days ago we learned that the Fifty Shades Of Grey adaptation finally nailed down (ahem) its director– Sam Taylor-Johnson, who some of you mentioned is known not only for her filmmaking, but also for being married to Aaron Taylor-Johnson (the actor is exactly half her age). Still no word on whether or not she’ll be casting her hubby in the role of Christian Grey, but we are hearing that Alex Pettyfer might still be interested, and we also have an official release date from the studios! Click inside for more!

E! has the story:

Mark your calendars, Fifty Shades of Grey fans!

Focus Features, the studio behind the big-screen adaptation of the bestselling book, announced in a press release on Thursday that the film will hit North American theaters on Friday, August 1, 2014, with opening dates around the world to be revealed at a later time.

#FiftyShadesofGrey is now a shade closer,” Focus Features tweeted along with a graphic captioned, “Charlie Tango you are cleared for landing. August 1, 2014,” an obvious reference to Christian Grey’s helicopter.

Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James herself tweeted, “Good morning all. Hot news – we have a release date!”

Here’s the pic the studio tweeted:

Listen. I’m almost finished with Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea… but before I started it I plowed my way through Fifty Shades Darker and it was insane. I’ve said before I completely get how people loathe this book because it’s just not a work of lit’rature in that sense. However. I’m totally psyched for this movie! I still have to try to catch one of Johnson’s movies so I can see what she’s all about, but I think it could be really fun.

E! went on to report that Alex Pettyfer (who shot that Fifty Shades test sex scene with director Gus Van Sant) was still a name being thrown around as a possible Christian. But they also said folks were linking Robert Pattinson to the project as well. So, who knows?

But if the movie is dropping next summer, they’re gonna have to start making these decisions ASAP. I, for one, can’t wait to get some solid casting news so hopefully we’ll get some more deets soon.

Loved all three books. Of course it’s not a literary jewel, I wasn’t expecting that. It delivers exactly what it is supposed to, it is porn for the ladies with an interesting plot as background. My husband really appreciated what the book did for my libido hahaha. I’m super excited for the movie, I hope they don’t screw it up. And I hope they choose the right Christian Grey, it is SUCH an interesting character. Pettyfer looks hot enough for the role, I like him… A lot!

Ian Sommerhalder needs to be Christian.

Yes. Please. Robert Pattinson rumors just need to go away. There are a thousand other actors that would do this so much better and Ian is at the top of my list.

Nooooo, not R Patz! I am not a huge fan. He looked great in Water for Elephants, but that is the only time I have ever been attracted to him.

Definitely excited about the release date, though. Yay!

On the up side…the movie couldn’t possibly be worse than the book. Right?

agreed! they need to pick right on the Christian Grey character. When reading the books you don’t imagine/see/visualize Robert Pattinson. You see someone like Ian Sommerhalder, Matt Bomer, Paul Walker or Alex Pettyfer.
I will honestly say, if they put Robert Pattinson in as Christian Grey, i will not go see the movies as that will just ruin it. He’s Edward Cullen and needs to stay that!
