As many of y’all know, yesterday was my birthday and it was kind of a huge deal!!! I friggen love birthdays. I know, everybody does– but seriously. They are so special and magical and I always try to make a huge deal about mine (and the b-days of those around me), so I had a blast yesterday. What did I do? Nothing. Where did I go? Nowhere. Except to the nail salon. And I had a blast. Because it was my friggen birthday, lol! Anyway, I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of y’all for making it really special with all those comments on the super-sweet post Trent wrote for me, and to share a few pics from my awesome day. You guys know I try to respond to as many comments as I can but the birthday lurve poured in so heavy! So I didn’t get to respond to everyone individually. I was actually getting a birthday mani/pedi in downtown Nyack when I saw the post, and may or may not have started tearing up like a weirdo while my nail technician looked on in confusion. It was awesome. If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw me showing off some of my fancy gifts from the day. But allow me to just reintroduce these shoes:
If you love Miranda Kerr’s airport fashion and have a babydaddy and/or husband and/or significant other, I highly recommend showing that person alllll of the many photos we have of Miranda out and about, just to give them an idea of the look you’re going for in 2013. It works, lol!
I don’t know if any of y’all had those belgian waffle makers in your college dining hall, but OMG I’ve been wanting one of these since freshman year at Sarah Lawrence and finally, glory is mine:
I also did my hair, which was a big deal because that doesn’t always happen:
A few other gifts were showered upon me, including this amazing eye shadow kit I’d been obsessing over at Sephora and some new sunglasses that totally, kinda look like the ones Beyoncé is wearing HERE, lol. I didn’t have to go anywhere, because we’d decided to watch Broken City with Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe (a very good time) and I’d decided that I reeeeallly wanted to finish Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea (almost finished). Plus, I really am one of those people who has the most fun at home:
The best part about my b-day was that I really felt one of those rare moments of total peace of mind. I’ve been working hard to get more organized in my household and in my work over the last few weeks and it is truly starting to pay off. I’ve always kept a journal but this is the first time in years where I’m waking up earlier just so I can do some personal writing every day. Making what feels like a real effort to connect with my thoughts and with my god has been really making my life happy; fancy shoes help too but they feel so much better when your head is in a good place :)
Again, I have to say THANK YOU to my boo Trent and all of you PITNBrs who sent me well-wishes on the birthday post and on my Instagram. I laughed, cried, and– for all of you who made references to either Scandal or Revenge– yes. My day was just as fabulous as Olivia Pope’s wardrobe and/or Victoria Grayson’s living room decor. Thanks again to all of y’all for making this year– seriously– one of the best ever. So excited to be starting 28 off here with you guys :)0
