The Rolling Stones are currently on tour here in the US and they’ve been blazing a trail of awesome all across the country in recent weeks. At each tour stop, the Stones bring on stage a featured performer (usually a woman) to duet with them on a song. Thus far, singers like Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crow and Carrie Underwood have been featured on stage with the Rolling Stones … and last night, it was Taylor Swift’s turn. Taylor was introduced on stage in Chicago, IL last night during the Stones’s performance at the United Center and she performed one of the first songs ever penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, As Tears Go By. Click below to see a couple photos of Mick and Taylor on stage and watch video of their duet of the classic song.
Taylor Swift joined The Rolling Stones onstage at the band’s gig at the United Center in Chicago last night (June 3). The legendary rockers welcomed the pop singer onstage for an intimate and stripped down version of ‘As Tears Go By’ … Mick Jagger and Keith Richards originally wrote ‘As Tears Go By’ for Jagger’s then girlfriend Marianne Faithfull, who had a Top Ten hit with the song in 1964. The band recorded their own version the following year but didn’t perform it live until 2005, some 40 years later. Jagger announced last night’s special guest in advance, tweeting: “Looking forward to singing with @taylorswift13 tonight! Wonder which song we will do?”. After the gig, the band posted a photo from the performance on their official Twitter feed. Swift joins an illustrious list of special guests to have joined the band onstage during their ’50 & Counting Tour’, following in the footsteps of Lady Gaga, Dave Grohl, Florence Welch, Katy Perry and Tom Waits. The next stop on the tour is Toronto, Canada on Thursday (June 6).
Honestly, you have to admit that this is cool as Hell for Taylor Swift. To be able to perform on stage WITH the Rolling Stones is a feat that is not enjoyed by many so kudos to her for being chosen. Now, as for the duet with Mick … it was cute but OOF, not that great. As Tears Go By is a beautiful song as sung by Marianne Faithfull … but if you don’t hit the notes right, yeah, the song can be pretty bad. Taylor did an OK job last night, I think but it wasn’t the best rendition of the song that I’ve ever heard. Truth be told, some of those missed notes were made by Mr. Jagger. Maybe he was super nervous about performing with Taylor Swift? Who knows. Still, I think it’s really rad that the Stones are bringing on stage singers from younger generations to perform with them. Well done, Taylor. You can tell that she was really amped about being chosen to perform with the Rolling Stones, this is what she tweeted last night:
Filing this under ‘never in my wildest dreams’.Thank you @RollingStones for inviting me to Chicago to sing with you.
As the article above mentions, the Rolling Stones are headed to Toronto, Ontario next … so I’m guessing they’ll bring a Canadian on stage to perform with them. Any guesses who it might be? Justin Bieber? Avril Lavigne? OH, god, can you imagine?! OY!!!0
