Wow! Columbia Records just issued a press release announcing that they have signed Nine Inch Nails to a new record contract and that a new NIN album will be released later this year! The release, which you can read below, quotes Trent Reznor’s admittance that he has been “less than honest” with us about his plans for Nine Inch Nails. As you may recall, we learned earlier this year that NIN was reforming for a new world tour later this year and at the time, we were told that the band would be performing songs from NIN’s back catalog along with 2 new songs that will be featured on a greatest hits album due out this year. Today we learn that Reznor has been secretly working on an entire NEW album of NIN songs which we now know will be released this year. OMFG! Read on for more deets.
Columbia Records has signed Nine Inch Nails. The band will release a new studio album later this year.
“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately,” said Trent Reznor. “For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”
“We are thrilled at Columbia to work with a true renaissance artist like Trent Reznor on the return of Nine Inch Nails and an exciting new chapter of innovative music from them,” commented Rob Stringer, Chairman of Columbia Records.
The band is performing at a number of festivals this summer, including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Leeds, Reading, Made In America and the Voodoo Festival. The new Nine Inch Nails lineup – Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Robin Finck, Trent Reznor and Ilan Rubin – will debut on July 26 at the Fuji Rock Festival in Naeba, Japan. The show will mark Nine Inch Nails’ first live performance in nearly four years.
YOU KNOW … I had a feeling about this. Now, I had NO knowledge of a new NIN album on the horizon but when TR started talking about the 2 new songs he wrote for the upcoming greatest hits album, I had a feeling that he had also worked on enough songs for a new NIN album. It was possible that NIN would tour on their back catalog but I had a gut feeling that the upcoming world tour would feature more than just a couple of new songs. Still, I’m VERY pleasantly surprised by this news today. Dang, a new NIN album out this year … AND A TOUR? This is exceedingly exciting news for NIN fans all around the world. Woot!
