Watch: Kanye West Debuts His New Song And Visuals For ‘New Slaves’ In Various Locations Across The World

Kanye West is not playing around with this new album y’all. Rather than officially premiere his new single on Soundcloud, and then drop the visuals on Vevo or something, you know, normal, Yeezy premiered New Slaves last night across the world at various locations. We have visuals of the video being projected onto a building in Brooklyn last night. Check out the new video above and click inside for more about the project, and one more video.

Here’s the video at the Toronto location:

Hypetrak has the story:

The cryptic “June Eighteenth” tweet on Kanye West’s Twitter has been replaced by the announcement that he will be premiering a new video tonight, which is currently being projected onto buildings across the world. The US locations are San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, and New York. Click here for specifics on all of the 66 locations.

And here’s the tweet Kanye sent out:

I know everybody can’t get with Yeezy, but I just effing love him! Who does this?! I love it. And yes– it’s a video of his face– so it comes off pretty arrogant, and kinda preachy (since he’s, like, yelling at us from different locations across the globe), but I still love it. And I love the words to the song, which DirectLyrics posted last night:

[Verse 1]
My momma was raised in an era when,
Clean water was only served to the fairer skin
Doing clothes you would have thought I had help
But they wasn’t satisfied unless I picked the cotton myself.
You see its broke nigga racism
That’s that “Don’t touch anything in the store”
And there’s rich nigga racism
That’s that “Come here, please buy more”
What you want a Bentley, fur coat and diamond chain?
All you blacks want all the same things
Used to only be niggas now everybody play me
Spending everything on Alexander Wang
New Slaves

You see it’s leaders and there’s followers
But I’d rather be a dick than a swallower

You see it’s leaders and there’s followers
But I’d rather be a dick than a swallower

[Verse 2]
I throw these Maybach keys
I wear my heart on the sleeve
I know that we the new slaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I see the blood on the leaves
I know that we the new slaves
I see the blood on the leaves
They throwing hate at me
Want me to stay at ease
Fuck you and your corporation
Y’all niggas can’t control me
I know that we the new slaves
I know that we the new slaves
I’m about to wild the fuck out
I’m going Bobby Boucher
I know that pussy ain’t free
You niggas pussy, ain’t me
Y’all throwing contracts at me
You know that niggas can’t read
Throw on some Maybach keys
Fuck it, c’est la vie
I know that we the new slaves
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with me
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with Ye
Y’all niggas can’t fuck with Ye
I’ll move my family out the country
So you can’t see where I stay
So go and grab the reporters
So I can smash their recorders
See they’ll confuse us with some bullshit like the New World Order
Meanwhile the DEA
Teamed up with the CCA
They tryna lock niggas up
They tryna make new slaves
See that’s that private owned prison
Get your piece today
They Probably all in the Hamptons
Braggin’ ’bout their maid
Fuck you and your Hampton house
I’ll fuck your Hampton spouse
Came on her Hampton blouse
And in her Hampton mouth
Y’all ’bout to turn shit up
I’m ’bout to tear shit down
I’m ’bout to air shit out
Now what the fuck they gon’ say now?

Lyrically, it kinda has that All Falls Down message, but it’s also a lot more complicated than that. To call rappers (and, well, lots of black people caught up in a particular lifestyle) the ‘new slaves’? Yeah. Like I said, he’s not playing around with this new album.

And while I think the message of the song is directed towards a particular demographic, he’s also just speaking to capitalism and fame at large, and those who succumb (or bow down) to it. Good stuff, Kanye!

I’m assuming he’ll perform this on Saturday Night Live tonight, so I’ll def be tuning in. Yeezy’s officially back! What do you guys think of the video debut and the new song?

Okay, I freaking love this. Arrogant as hell, indeed, but it’s Kanye. It’s damn awesome to see this kind of excitement in music. I ain’t going to drop my new video… I’m going to PROJECT it across the PLANET. Hell yeah.

Miss Mellie, it’s DIFFERENT! I mean, people can hate on Kanye (or just plain hate him, lol) all they want, but you can’t say he’s not trying and not on his own level. I love that he went this totally unexpected route.

    1) the last lyrics about Hampton – a lil awkward considering his BF Jay-z & wife spent an expensive summer there last year.
    2) the lyrics about Bentleys & diamonds – so is Ye a slave ’cause he’s into that too? He’s sounding like he’s above it but … Um … He’s the Louie Vuitton Don. He ain’t above it.
    3) I thought he’d jam the eff out during the instrumentals, a little head bopping, but interesting choice just staring straight on.
    4) really digging the sound here – lyrics, beat & he sings!
    5) this is just rad & creative – what a great way to announce the album. I wonder how many people walked by the 66 locations last night & were SO CONFUSED.
