Thus far this year, director Bryan Singer has shown us exclusive photos from the set of the upcoming prequel sequel film X-Men: Days of Future Past. First, he showed us a pair of wheelchairs to be used by Professor Charles Xavier (both young and old played by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy respectively) and then he showed us what Halle Berry looks like in her reprised role of Storm. Today we get to see a photo of actors Hugh Jackman and Nicholas Hoult as they film new scenes for Days of Future Past. As you may know, those of you who saw X-Men: First Class, Hoult plays the young Beast in the film. Jackman cameoed in First Class as Wolverine but he was not really featured in the film at all. This time around, it looks like he will play a more significant role. Check out the photo below and speculate along, will you?
“Welcome to 1973,” so director Bryan Singer captions his latest photo for his highly-anticipated feature “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. After previously teasing shaggy-haired James McAvoy as young Charles Xavier, Singer this time gives fans a first look at Wolverine and Beast as portrayed by Hugh Jackman and Nicholas Hoult. Not many details hinting at the vintage period are shown in the pic, except the items that both actors don. Wearing horn-rimmed glasses, Hoult is seen in a suede jacket of which color matches his trousers’. Standing next to him is Jackman in his trademark sideburns, wearing a dark-colored vintage shirt under a brown leather jacket … Based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s storyline in “The Uncanny X-Men” #141 and #142, “Days of Future Past” is set in 1981. The story introduced the idea of an alternate future for the Marvel mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels. The star-studded Marvel film is scheduled to open in theaters across the United States on July 18, 2014.
Honestly, I’m not all that familiar with the X-Men comic book series (I’m more of a DC Comics guy) so I am not familiar with this particular storyline … and that is just fine. Even tho I don’t read the comics, I have loved (for the most part) the movie versions based on the books. I absolutely LOVED X-Men: First Class and I have every confidence that this sequel will be just as good. Bryan Singer does X-Men very, very well so … I’m not worried at all. I’m not really looking forward to an entire year of waiting to see this film but … we do what we must in this imperfect world, don’t we? I love seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine … so even tho we have to wait FOREVER to see him in Days of Future Past, we at least get to see him in his own Wolverine film this Summer :D I guess this cruel world isn’t so imperfect after all.
