Fox Considers Bringing ’24’ Back To TV

Yesterday afternoon a LOT of news came out concerning which TV shows got renewed for next season and which TV shows did not get renewed … but among the melee of happy/sad news came the report that Fox is considering bringing the AMAZING series 24 back to TV! Yes, folks, 24 may be back on the air very soon. At this point, nothing has been decided officially … but according to Deadline, Kiefer Sutherland has been approached to reprise his role as Jack Bauer … if he signs on, 24 will likely come back as a “limited series”. In short, OMG! 24 MIGHT BE COMING BACK TO TV!!!!!!!

The clock may start ticking again on Fox. I’ve learned that the network is looking to bring back its signature real-time drama 24 as a limited series. Kiefer Sutherland is in talks to reprise his Emmy-winning role as Agent Jack Bauer. No deals are in place, but Fox is eying 24 as part of its recent push in limited event series. Since 24 ended its eight-season run on Fox in 2010, there have been efforts to continue the story as a feature, which ultimately didn’t take off. I hear the idea to do another 24 chapter on TV came from longtime 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, now executive producer on Showtime’s Homeland. I hear he pitched the plan, which would start from scratch with a new story arc, to 24 producers 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV as well as Fox, which all jumped on board. Gordon will likely executive produce through his 20th TV-based company Teakwood Lane … The original 24 was created by Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran, who executive produced with Gordon, Brian Grazer, Sutherland, Evan Katz and Tony Krantz. At the 2006 Emmys, the show won five Emmys, including best drama series and best actor in a drama series for Sutherland.

UPDATE: Former 24 executive producer David Fury said on Twitter that he also is involved in the reboot. “I’m pulling double duty along with Tyrant,” he wrote.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! One of the BEST action series EVER might be coming back to TV? I’m dying. DYING! I’m gonna call it right now … Kiefer will sign on now that Touch has been cancelled and we will soon learn that this push to bring back 24 is official. While I’m very bummed that the much ballyhooed 24: The Movie never got off the ground, I think this is the next best thing … bringing 24 back to TV where it belongs. I’m a bit confused by this talk of a “limited series” tho … as I understand it, limited series shows only run for a short run of episodes (6 eps, 12 ep, etc.) which won’t make sense if 24 is supposed to feature 1 hour long episodes in “real time”. At this point, that is only a minor point to worry about … first, we have to get Kief to sign on … we need to get Mary Lynn Rajskub to sign on (as the indispensable Chloe O’Brian) … then we need Fox to officially confirm. My gut tells me this will happen … and then my heart can explode from happiness! Yay!!!

AHHHHH!!! I miss Jack so freaking much!!! I hope this really does happen because OHMYGOD!!!! I’m hoping the limited run means one return season?? It would be weird to have 24 cut down?? Oh well, though! I will take any Jack Bauer I can get!!

    • @ClaireMichelle — OOOH, you’re right … limited series might refer to the number of seasons, not episodes :D You can’t make ’24’ without 24 eps :) I can feet it in my bones … now that ‘Touch’ has been cancelled (thankfully) it sounds like Fox is willing to bring back our beloved ’24’

    In addition to Chloe

Chloe ah Chloe, from the outset into CTU, felt her great technology, the idea is very strange, her speaking is very tomographic that makes people speechless . Season to season come into our hearts, she becomes Jack’s strong backing. Finally she say goodbye with tears.

    Forever Chloe
Suddenly discovered that she is the first heroine.
