First Listen: A Snippet Of Beyoncé And André 3000’s ‘Back To Black’ Cover Gets Released

A little while back we got our first taste of The Great Gatsby soundtrack, and it was kind of a big deal. Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated adaptation is coming with some brilliant music from some amazing artists. The other day we got to hear Florence + The Machine’s Over The Love, which is on the soundtrack, and now we get a snippet of the cover everyone’s been waiting to hear. Beyoncé and André 3000 covered Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black, and although everyone might not be into it (including Amy Winehouse’s father… who thought Beyoncé should have paid to cover the song), I was excited to hear what they’d done with the original track. Beyoncé And André 3000, Back To Black:

Okay, we know it’s not Amy. Obviously. But personally, I really like the opening with 3 Stacks. I mean, André 3000 just makes everything dope. Hopefully we get to hear the full version soon. I think I need to hear a little more of Bey’s part to get into it completely.

So far, what do y’all think of the cover?

When the bass drops at the 0:40 mark!!! Yesss. I tend to love everything Andre 3000 touches. He is such a talent. Bey’s voice sounds like silk. I agree, I reserve final judgement for the full track but, I could like this. It’s NOT Amy. Its something else.

Weird combo. Do I detect hints of surf guitar? The whole effect makes me feel like I’m drunk on rot gut. Perhaps, for me, it’s a fitting tribute to Amy because when I used to see her more unfortunate pictures, they made me feel like that, too.

I don’t know what to think of it just yet. I need to hear the whole song first. But I think its to soon to cover any of her songs

  • Krissy

I really like how this sounds. Very moody and cinematic…Will have to hear more of B’s part to see what she brings to it, but I like what I hear so far.
