Yesterday Showtime officially and finally confirmed that the forthcoming 8th season of Dexter will be the last with the release of the first video footage from the upcoming season. Today we hear from lead star Michael C. Hall his opinions on the confirmed end of the series. MCH spoke with Entertainment Weekly magazine and reveals that he is pleased that the show has decided to focus on its end game. Considering the events that transpired in Dexter season 7 last year, it makes sense that the upcoming 8th season would have to be the last. Michael C. Hall is pleased with Showtime’s decision to bring Dexter to a conclusion this summer. Showtime just confirmed season 8 will be the show’s final outing. In addition to starring in the show as Dexter Morgan, the six-time Emmy nominee is an executive producer on the Showtime hit and directed an episode during the upcoming season. He agrees with a sentiment held by many of the show’s long-time fans that his character is ready for a final chapter. “I’ve been an advocate for having a dialog with the writers and getting a sense of how to best bring this story home — not wrap everything up with a tidy bow, but find some sort of conclusion,” Hall told EW earlier this month on the Dexter set. “There has to be an end game. Once Deb found out, it felt like we were moving toward a place where the world as Dexter knew it would end.”
As a producer of the series, MCH was in a position to be part of the discussion regarding the end of the series so it sounds like he made peace with this decision some time ago. EW followed up with a MCH asking him what his plans are after the end of Dexter, he had this to say:
“I don’t imagine I’ll jump right back into something, but such amazing things are happening on television, to rule it out entirely would be silly,” Hall says. “I look forward to finding out what life feels like without Dexter.”
OMG. I’m having a hard time imagining MCH in a role other than that of Dexter Morgan but he’s too good an actor to just go quietly away. I don’t believe we’ll see him immediately in a new show the following TV season but … who knows? If the right project comes along, with the right paycheck … I suspect Michael C. Hall will have his pick of the litter. As sad as I am about the end of Dexter, I agree … it’s time to end the series. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how season 8 will play out … and how the story will end once and for all.
