Trent Reznor‘s new band, the collective called How to Destroy Angels, made their live performance debut at the Fox Theater in Pomona, CA last night in front of a sold out house of family, friends and fans. Altho HTDA will make their official live debut at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival this weekend, last night’s show in Pomona was meant to be a more intimate introduction to the world. I was thrilled to be in attendance last night and I have to say, I was completely blown away by the show. I tried my best not to have any expectations from Trent Reznor and his fellow Angels Mariqueen Maandig, Atticus Ross and Rob Sheridan because I was confident they’d put on an amazing performance. Even still, I was unprepared for the sheer visual and sonic genius that was on display last night. Click below to see some photos from the show which, in all honesty, do not even come close to doing the band justice.

The core crew of HTDA was joined by Nine Inch Nails keyboardist Alessandro Cortini who will be on tour with the band when they hit the road. I mean, what can I say about last night’s show that will adequately convey the experience? The show is big but not overwhelming. The experience was crafted to showcase both the inventive nature of the visual and the sonic beauty of their music. It’s difficult to explain what the stage setup is like … of course there are projections and video components involved but the production itself is so damn cool. In all honesty, the show has to be seen in person for the full effect to be enjoyed. Coachella will livestream HTDA‘s live performance tomorrow night so folks who can’t be in attendance will get a taste of how the show is meant to be enjoyed but … folks, if you don’t have tickets to see How to Destroy Angels on their upcoming tour, you gotta get on that.
It was really great to hang with a bunch of really good friends at the show last night … it felt like a family or high school reunion, to be honest. And the good times have only just begun. I’m heading out to Indio, CA to see HTDA again at Coachella tomorrow night and then I’ll be seeing them in SF next week and in NJ and NY at the end of the month. I hope you can come out to the shows, I’d love to say hello to you :)
AHHHH! I’m still so wowed by last night’s show, I’m anxious to see them again. I’ll spend today mentally preparing myself for the Coachella experience tomorrow so … HAPPY WEEKEND EVE!
