Remember back in the day when *NSync would release albums and they would debut atop the Billboard album chart with something like 1 million albums sold? Well, now that Justin Timberlake is solo he’s not quite selling that many albums … but he’s selling pretty close to that number. JT released The 20/20 Experience this week and according to early tracking sales, it looks like he’s going to sell over 800,000 copies in this first week … making this album release the 5th highest of the decade so far! Not too shabby, eh?
Following up to the great critical response Justin Timberlake’s new album The 20/20 Experience is also expected to do it big on the sale side of things. The album, which hit stores last Tuesday, is likely to move between 800-850k sold copies in the first week at retail. This marks the fifth-biggest debut of this decade, behind only two Taylor Swift albums (1.2m, 1.05m) and one each from Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne (1.1m, 964k). Deserved? Definitely but it sure is not as surprising regarding the great music on the LP as well as the big marketing machine behind it.
Amazingly, Bon Jovi beat David Bowie to the #1 spot last week but this week, no question, Justin Timberlake will reign supreme. If you consider that JT has another full album planned for release in November, I’m thinkin’ this album will be one of a pair of #1 albums that will rule the Billboard album chart. Clearly, fans have been anxious for JT’s return to music. Have you picked up your copy of The 20/20 Experience yet?
