R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ Series Is Coming To Theatres

All the 90s kids say hoooo! Or, noooo! Depending on how you feel about this, lol… So, we all remember R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series, and the amazingness that was reading your first “horror” book at age nine. My personal collection was wither above or below the massive amounts of Babysitter’s Club books on my bookshelf, but both were near and dear to my heart. I remember when Goosebumps became a TV show for a little while, and that was kinda fun, but now the beloved books are getting ready to come to the big screen. Even though we should be used to our favorite childhood stories getting the Hollywood treatment, this ish is still kinda cray to me! Click inside to learn more!

Complex has the story:

Get ready to feel like you’re ten again: The books that made every 90’s kid’s childhood awesome, Goosebumps, are being turned into a movie that is sure to make our adult lives awesome. According to Slashfilm, Sony acquired the rights to the R.L. Stine book series a few years ago, and is in negotiations with Monsters vs. Aliens director Rob Letterman to direct a film adaptation.

There’s no word on which novel the film will be based off of – or if it will be a collection of vignettes, which would be cool – but Sony apparently has the rights to over 50 over the books. Initial plans were to make the film live-action.

It’s been ages since I read one of these books, but I think they might translate well to film. I liked >Monsters vs. Aliens, so Rob Letterman might be the guy for the job.

What do y’all think? Or are you too nostalgic to think right now? LOL. Sigh… The Cuckoo Clock Of Doom was my ish!

This could be really fun. I would love an adaptation of “Are you afraid of the dark?” as well!

    • Shane

Agreed! Are You Afraid of the Dark? was definitely miles better than the Goosebumps TV series. However, I’ll reserve judgement until we see what they can do with this on the big screen…

    • Lynne

Yes, “Are You Afraid of the Dark” movie with a Ryan Gosling cameo! Anybody remember that episode he was in?? :D

And I still have all my “Goosebumps” books. :)

  • Carl

I lit’rally had ALL of the Goosebumps books, and also collected Fear Street (and I loved me some BSC too, Shannon!)…my brother now has the shows on DVD so every day is like the 90s for me. It’s kinda fun to watch them with him. Am I excited for this? Well, considering I screamed like a bitch when I found the Power Rangers movie at Target for 5 bucks, I’m gonna go with YES!!!!!

As for my favorite Goosebumps books, The Cuckoo Clock Of Doom, Piano Lessons Can Be Murder, The Ghost Next Door, A Night In Terror Tower, the first two Night of the Living Dummy books, Welcome to Dead House and The Horror at Camp Jellyjam were my favorites.

    • Carl

Oh AND! Why I’m Afraid of Bees and Be Careful What You Wish For…

I really need to hit the library now…between this and Girl Meets World my little 90s heart is shouting with glee from the rooftops.

    • Shannon

Carl, the Night of the Living Dummy books scared the iiiishhhhhh outta me!

  • Nathan

I was a fan of both Goosebumps and Are You Afraid Of the Dark.

  • Keith Clardy

The first “Goosebumps” book, Welcome to Dead House, is by far the best, in my opinion. I’d love to see it adapted into a film.
