At the conclusion of Downton Abbey season 3 — which ended LAST YEAR in the UK and ended LAST MONTH here in the US — we learned that actor Dan Stevens would be leaving the show … for good. Over the weekend, Stevens showed up on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards in NYC to show off his new Hollywood make-over and as you can see below, he is lookin’ a lot different these days. Click below to see what Dan Stevens looks like today and marvel at how much he no longer looks like Downton‘s Matthew Crawley.
Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens was barely recognizable as he revealed his darker hair and new slimmed-down figure at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York over the weekend. The 30-year-old British actor, who played Matthew Crawley in the ITV period drama, showed off his Hollywood makeover at the bash in the Big Apple looking dapper in a smart Calvin Klein Collection suit. Stevens has reportedly lost weight to star in upcoming movie A Walk Among the Tombstones based on the novel by Lawrence Block alongside Liam Neeson and Boyd Holbrook. Speaking about his desire to break into films, Stevens told The Mirror: “I don’t know what is around the corner but I hope it will be something different. I’ve not done as many films as I’d have liked. “I don’t have ‘I will be a movie star’ emblazoned on anything, but I’d like do a bit more screen stuff.” The star recently appeared on Broadway in The Heiress with Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain.
Wow! Honestly, if these photos weren’t tagged with Dan Stevens‘s name, I don’t think I would’ve known it was him. The weight loss is very noticeable and the darker hair color is almost transformative. I can’t say that I blame Stevens for wanting to leave his TV job for a shot at movie fame … I wish him all the luck in the world. That said, Downton Abbey is a great show and I, personally, would’ve tried to find a way to stay on the show AND film movies all at the same time. I guess we’ll see if his gamble pays off … and if his new look helps further his career.
