Last month we learned the VERY EXCITING NEWS that Nine Inch Nails is reforming for a new world tour that will take place later this year and into next year. At the time of the announcement, NIN mastermind Trent Reznor didn’t offer many details … today, we tells us a bit more. In a new interview, Reznor reveals that the bulk of NIN songs to be performed on the tour will be their already released classic songs … PLUS “a couple of new tracks” that were intended for a NIN greatest hits album (that was supposed to be released this year but has been pushed back to next year). Altho Reznor says there are no plans for a new NIN album (yet), we can look forward to hearing a couple of new songs when NIN hits the road later this year.
Trent Reznor has revealed that Nine Inch Nails are working on two new songs, which they could play live when they perform at the Reading and Leeds Festivals this summer. Reznor recently announced the return of Nine Inch Nails after spending time working on a number of film scores and also writing and recording an album with his other band, How To Destroy Angels. Nine Inch Nails will perform their only UK shows of 2013 at Reading and Leeds, performing directly before headliners Biffy Clyro. Speaking to NME about the possibility of fans hearing new material during the festival sets, Reznor said: “There isn’t any new material to play except from a couple of tracks Adrian (Belew, King Crimson guitarist and new member of Nine Inch Nails) and I started experimenting on that were intended to go on a greatest hits record. We decided to push that back to 2014, and there’s no new record scheduled at this point.” Elsewhere in the interview, Reznor spoke about the make-up of Nine Inch Nails live shows and what fans should expect. “The intention is to reconstruct songs based on this new instrumentation and only play songs we as a band feel good about. With Nine Inch Nails last time, I felt that I’d explored that kind of bludgeoning rock thing in a lot of different ways, like I’d done everything I could do with that format.”
This is very exciting news. I knew that a NIN greatest hits album was being planned and I knew the release would contain 2 new songs but we do not know the titles of these songs just yet. I’m glad to hear that Nine Inch Nails will perform these new songs live on tour and I don’t mind at all that the greatest hits album is being pushed back to next year. I am hopeful that we will get an entirely new album of NIN songs soon but it doesn’t sound that it’s in the cards for release this year. Man, I am so excited for the return of NIN … I can’t even tell you. It’s going to be an amazing year of live performances, I can feel it in me bones!
