Kristen Bell Wants YOUR Help To Get A ‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Made [UPDATE]

Hey Veronica Mars fans … remember that movie that we’ve been hearing about for years but never seems to get made? Well, Veronica star Kristen Bell and show creator Rob Thomas have teamed up to take matters into their own hands in the hopes of getting the movie made. According to Bell and Thomas, Warner Bros. (the studio that owns the rights to the show) says that the ONLY way a Veronica Mars movie will get made is if the pair can raise enough money to prove fan interest … therefore, they’ve launched the Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter project in the hopes that fans will rally together and raise the $2 million dollars required to get the film made. I’m assuming that the movie will require more than $2 million to get made but it sounds like WB says if $2 mil. is raised, they’ll move forward with production of the film. At this point, more than $600,000 has been raised so … this has a real shot of working out. Click below to learn more and find out how YOU can play a role in the making of the long-awaited Veronica Mars movie.

From Rob Thomas:
Almost since Veronica Mars went off the air, there’s been talk of making a movie. In that span, I’ve taken different tactics in dealing with the question of whether it might happen. To be clear, I’ve always wanted to make a Veronica Mars movie. I love writing these characters and working with these actors. Kristen Bell has always wanted to make the movie … Of course, Warner Bros. still owns Veronica Mars and we would need their blessing and cooperation to pull this off. Kristen and I met with the Warner Bros. brass, and they agreed to allow us to take this shot. They were extremely cool about it, as a matter of fact. Their reaction was, if you can show there’s enough fan interest to warrant a movie, we’re on board. So this is it. This is our shot. I believe it’s the only one we’ve got. It’s nerve-wracking. I suppose we could fail in spectacular fashion, but there’s also the chance that we completely revolutionize how projects like ours can get made. No Kickstarter project ever has set a goal this high. It’s up to you, the fans, now. If the project is successful, our plan is to go into production this summer and the movie will be released in early 2014 … Here it is. Our one shot to see a Veronica Mars movie happen. Kristen is in. I’m in. Let’s do it!

From Kristen Bell:

dearest marshmallows…

I am currently the happiest blonde in a hamster ball the world has ever seen. We have been waiting so long to make this movie dream a movie reality, and it’s because of YOUR commitment, YOUR persistence, that we finally have a chance. We just have one more step to go.

You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen. i promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can.

I promise to give it my all. i promise to work my hardest to give everyone a little bit more Veronica, and i will be oh so honored to do so.

I only ask for one thing in return.

If I ever die, do me a favor. Go on Oprah and tell the world that I loved kittens.

LoVe to you ALL,

kristen bell

And here’s a video that was released for the Kickstarter project:

If you would like to participate and help fund this project you can do so HERE. Depending on how much money you give you will get rewards like DVDs, t-shirts, scripts … all the way up to a speaking role in the film if you give at least $10,000! This sounds like a brilliant idea and I’m gonna call it right now, I think the $2 million will be raised and the movie will get made. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The $10,000 pledge for a speaking role in the film has been made. Since this post was published earlier today, the Kickstarter project has gone from raising $600,000 to raising almost $1.5 million! With just over half a million left to raise, I’d say this project will reach its goal in days … if not hours.

The Veronica Mars movie is gonna happen, y’all.

THIS IS SO EXCITING!! I have been dying for a VMars movie since we learned there wouldn’t be a 4th season (I still haven’t forgiven the CW for that… Crime against television, if you ask me!) and I have loved how invested Kristen, Rob and the whole cast have been in this movie possibility. They can take all my money (I’m poor though), just give me this movie!!!

LoVe forever!!! Ron Mars FTW. I’m really excited, basically!

  • Ryan E

$964,578 in FOUR HOURS!! This is definitely happening!

  • JeniLeeSK8

just hit a million. thanks for posting trent!

  • HeatherLea1340

I’m pretty sure I was more excited about this than the new Pope being chosen. Is that normal?

    • @HeatherLea1340 — Totally normal.

    • HeatherLea1340

Okay, good. I was *slightly* worried about my sanity for a minute there. ;)

    • @HeatherLea1340 — Just say 3 Hail Veronicas and you shall be absolved, my child.

    • HeatherLea1340

Ahhhhh. Between this and “she is never ever ever gonna read your letter”- I’m dying. You’re bringing the jokes today!

    • HeatherLea1340

It happened. IT HAPPENED. And I got a picture as soon as it changed.

  • MJ

Yay! It’s at 1.12mil already! It’s so getting made! *rushing to dust off my Veronica Mars DVDs*

  • Alicia Mayo-White

O_o this thing is gonna hit $2 million before the 24 hour mark.

At this rate, the entire movie might get funded and as awesome as that is, I see Hollywood taking this as a way to make the fans pay for their movies :(

    • ClaireMichelle

Yes, but the only way this works is with devoted fans already built in. That will be harder to come by for typical “Hollywood” films. And I’m sure the money will slow down after the $2 mil mark and the eager fans have already contributed what they can.

  • ClaireMichelle

I am still freaking out over this!!! It’s happening!!

  • Ashley

OMG! I am shrieking like a 14 year old girl on the inside! I am at work or I would be jumping for joy right now. I loved, loved, loved this show when it was on! I really hope this happens! As Rachel Zoe says, ‘I die.’

  • Alicia Mayo-White

Hey, look what is a $2.1 million already O_o. This has to be some sort of Kickstarter record. Wondering how high it will end up in a month.
