First Listen: Azealia Banks Releases Her New Single ‘Yung Rapunxel’

"Who’s Cooler Than This Witch?"

Last week we got our first look at the cover art for Azealia Banks‘s new single Yung Rapunxel, which is the first from her upcoming debut album Broke With Expensive Taste (due out later this year … sometime … I think). Today we get to hear the track in full. Azealia released the single on her official Twitter profile earlier today giving us a taste of what’s to come when she finally releases her first full-length album. Miss Banks has been generating a lot of buzz with the singles and mixtapes she’s been releasing herself over the past couple of years (and has garnered attention for the Internet antics and social media feuds she’s gotten mixed up in) but this is our first taste of what her serious music career may sound like. Click below, take a listen.

YUNG RAPUNXEL Lyrics

Who’s Cooler Than This – Witch,
Maneuver then dip, hip like the ruger – this clip,
Bitches Zooted and Sipped, I’m Suited And Zipped.
Make a move or get skipped, sis ya “who it,” and hit,
Like, who is this bitch?
who was fooding this fish?
Let ya hoof n’ it slip, i’ll swoop in and split.
Take two of this tit…. D-do-do-dit dit
Keep Grooving this bitch, like ya new with this pip!
Stay true to this shit,
Mackin’ moves in this bitch, whitey hoot for this sis.
If these niggas is rich, if these niggas insist,
i’ma dig ‘em and dip – take a whiff of this mist.
I’m used to this chip.
Spit ya fluidest, – bitch nigga, you could get bent.
Remov-ed and Spent….
I’m a shoe in this Shit Shaker, You was just tricked….
PERUSING HIS DICK
Come feud with this Fif, face two of this lit.
He’s souping his drip, from the roof of this clit.
Brrrrrrrr- Brrrrrr-Brrrrrr-Brrraaaat,
Bitch better quit that quit that chit chat
If you strapped nigga! , Dare You Ta, Dare You Ta
Brrrrrrrrrr-Brrrp-Brrrp-Brrrrp
Just let me pop my shit, let me hit that weed!
and sip that – aye niggas? what?!

DARE YOU TA DARE YOU TA
BRRRRRRRRRRR-BRRRRP-BRRRRP-BRRRRP-BRRRP
LET A BITCH NIGGA DROP, BET THE BITCH AIN’T BARKIN’ LIKE ME
WELL NIGGAS?! WHAT THE FUCK?!
Dare You Ta, Dare You Ta
Brrrrrrrrrr-Brrrp-Brrrp-Brrrrp
Just let me pop my shit, let me hit that!
and sip that – aye niggas? what?!
WHAT THE FUCK?!
DARE YOU TA DARE YOU TA
BRRRRRRRRRRR-BRRRRP-BRRRRP-BRRRRP-BRRRP
(STORM)
Show me which niggas out, tryna risk they all with the witch AB?
Az’s on the Block, Straight Cheese On The Chop-
AZ stay talking that Sick, Sadistic Shit….
These niggas think they grew up too tough,
I’ll rip your niggas head off like he who what who pop?
i’ll send him to jehovah like he flew up who got the – (i got a situation to handle)
(HOOK)

Wow, this is a very good song. I have to say, I’ve been a fan of Azealia‘s music since the first time I heard it. When she put out 212 (seemingly 10 years ago now) she hooked me immediately with her fresh sound, her clever lyrics and her very impressive rap style. Say what you will about her antics and silly feuds, the young woman is incredibly talented. This new single sounds really new, no one else really makes music the way she does. I, personally, would love for Banks to exercise some restraint when it comes to the way she, um, interacts with other people. Just last night, she got into another beef … this time with Rita Ora. Azealia started sharing publicly text messages that Rita supposedly sent her … which makes no sense at all. I have no doubt that Azealia‘s talent can take her very far. If she would focus solely on her music and let the childish behavior fall by the wayside, she could be huge. Instead, she threatens her success with nonsense behavior. This new single is very exciting. I really want to hear more music and less of her other nonsense.

  1. Am i the only one who thinks that this sounds like random noise? I like 212 but this is just kinda random noise to me.

  2. DJ

I’m sorry, I must have missed the memo where we decided to ignore her homophobic rants and start to promote her, for lack of a better word, music.

  3. JCZ

What a waste of a great beat. I listened to it before reading the lyrics and once you know what garbage she is literally mumbling or screaming, the song becomes even less interesting.

There could be room to improve, but at this point, 212 seems to be a fluke and something that will be hard to beat for this still young and immature artist.

  4. fmx

It just sounds like a B-side. I thought she was going to quit rapping, I’m ready for Azealia the vocalist now.

  5. I get a Prodigy / mid 90s feel to this song – it’s really good. I hope she can focus on what she needs to.
