Azealia Banks Releases The Cover Art For Her New Single ‘Yung Rapunxel’

She Also Gets Into a Spat with The Stone Roses

While Azealia Banks has yet to release her official debut album, she is still promoting its eventual release by putting out new music. At this point, to be honest, I’ve lost track of when her album Broke with Expensive Taste is supposed to be released (it was due out last year, then due out in February now … who knows) but the first single from the album, Yung Rapunxel, is supposedly due out on March 26. Azealia released the cover art for the single on her official Twitter profile, which you can see in full below.

YUNG RAPUNXEL COVER ART #YUNGRAPUNXEL MARCH 26th.

I’ve not year heard the song but I suspect it will leak its way online before it gets officially released on the 26th. As for the single art, it’s odd but I don’t hate it. It’s pretty safe to say that AB likes to fire off her mouth, which sometimes gets her into trouble. My guess is that this cover art is meant to convey that sentiment.

In other Azealia news, she just got into a new beef while on tour in Australia this weekend. Apparently, she is claiming that the rock band The Stone Roses teamed up with her ex-manager and tried to sabotage her performance … or something like that:

Azealia Banks has embarked in yet another Twitter feud, this time by wishing death upon The Stone Roses. Both acts are currently playing the Future Music Festival in Australia and, judging by Banks’ Tweets, her anger stems from claims she has made that the Manchester band tried to sabotage her set by checking their equipment while she was performing. “Big apologies on behalf of the stone roses to my fans at the festival today,” she wrote. “My ex tour manager made a pact with the stone roses saying they’d sabotage my set because I fired him and they decided to check their equipment behind me during my set.” She then fired off a series of angry messages aimed at the band:

Fuck those old saggy white n***** stone roses. I wish them nothing but excrement and death. / Wow! I must really fucking be a superstar… You’ve got an established band trying to sabotage my lil rap bitch shine. / Wow a bunch of old white men trying to bully a young black girl…. What the fuck else is new in this world ???

Wow. And LOL. I’m not entirely certain The Stone Roses really conspired to sabotage young Ms. Azealia but she certainly seems to think they are in cahoots with her ex-manager:

My ex tour manager made a pact with the stone roses saying they’d sabotage my set because I fired him.. / And they decided to check their equipment behind me during my set.

Hahaha … OK. In order for me to remain interested in what AB does, I really have to not pay attention to the facepalm-worthy things she says on her various social media accounts. The girl is talented but she’s yung … and it shows. I’m really curious to hear what her debut album sounds like. I’m guessing she used all the extra time she got from delaying the album’s release to record some great music. We shall see. Yung Rapunxel should give us our first taste of what to expect from the album so … it shant be long now. My guess is that Azealia will get into at least 13 more Twitter beefs before her album comes out … at least 2 before her single comes out.

  1. Trent, I was just wondering why you have never (unless I missed the post) her use of the F word. Is it because she said it against Perez Hilton? I think her use of it is disgusting even if it is against someone like Perez who isn’t exactly an angel. You say ‘Hahaha … OK. In order for me to remain interested in what AB does, I really have to not pay attention to the facepalm-worthy things she says on her various social media accounts. The girl is talented but she’s yung … and it shows’ but would you say that and turn a blind eye if Justin Bieber or Chris Brown (who does use that word regularly) let off an F word filled attack at someone on Twitter. I’m a big fan of your blog, just curious of your opinion on that incident.

    • @Megan — I’m never in support of the use that word at all. I also never personally blog about certain people. AB’s use of that word hits a weird cross section for me. I don’t have a public opinion on her interactions with that person. As you say, CB “uses that word regularly” and I also don’t blog about it because I do my best not to blog about him at all. For the record, I would never endorse the use of the “F word” the “N word” or the “R word” by anyone.
