‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Releases A New Promo Image Of Johanna Mason

The Official Capitol Portrait

The second official Capitol portrait of the day for the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been released and as you can see below, it features the “sly and cunning” Panem tribute from District 7 — Johanna Mason. In the film, Johanna is played by Jena Malone and honestly … the casting seems perfect to me. As far as I know, this is our first look at Jena in character as Johanna so what are you waiting for? Click below to see her official Capitol portrait in full.

For much of Catching Fire, you’re not entirely sure what to make of Johanna … is she good? Is she bad? Is she friend or foe to our protagonist Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence). Whether she’s good or bad, she looks like she can cut a beyotch … like, seriously. Even tho Johnna likes to fake opponents into underestimating her, she is in actuality a ruthless and cunning force to be reckoned with. It’s gonna be really amazing to see Jena‘s Johanna go head to head with Jennifer‘s Katniss. And what of the other tribute from District 12, Peeta Mellark? Well, we may get to see his official Capitol portrait tomorrow :)

  1. Sly and cunning, Trent. Johanna is anything but shy. And I’m taking this clue as the official sorting of Johanna into the Slytherin Housea. Therefore, Johanna is officially made of win.

The portrait is amazing and very true to character. I love it. My favorite so far is definitely between Katniss’ and this one. Seriously, I cannot wait for Jena’s performance. I’m pulling for her. I think she’s a perfect for this role.

  2. I am so in love with this! I can’t wait to see Jena in action and Johanna because she embodies her so perfectly in a still image set up by the Capitol. I mean, holy smokes. And can we talk about the fashion so far in Catching Fire? The dresses on Effie, Katniss and Johanna are AMAZING!! I can’t wait for Peeta’s portrait today! :) And hopefully Finnick’s!

  3. Her hair bugs me. I don’t like the style in general but Johanna is supposed to have short spikey hair. I guess I see her as less vicious with long curly hair.

The rest is total awesomesauce C:

    • I think the hair is going to be shoulder-length and straight in the movie. I think this look is strictly for the portrait. I’m interested to see what they are going to do to her hair for Mockingjay. If they go by the book, the change is going to be more of a shocker now.

I agree with Joan, must only be for the Capitol portrait, they needed to soften her a bit. The Capitol never wants the tributes looking TOO strong, just strong enough.
