For the past couple of days we’ve been getting some really great official Capitol portraits of various characters from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Yesterday, two portraits were released — one for Effie Trinket and one for Caesar Flickerman. Today another two portraits were released — one for Haymitch Abernathy and one for Cinna. I was under the impression that we would get another two portraits tomorrow and then another pair of portraits and on and on leading up to the release of portraits of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark at the end of the week. I was wrong. Late tonight, the official Capitol portrait for Katniss (played by Jennifer Lawrence) was released … and man, is it the coolest photo yet. Click below to see it in full.
As Pink reader ClaireMichelle notes, you can see that the Mockingjay has been crafted into Katniss‘s dress … but you can only tell what it is if you know what the mockingjay symbol looks like. It’s a really spectacular dress. You will also note that unlike the previous 4 portraits that have been released that feature the characters sitting in chairs, Katniss is standing next to her chair. It seems to me her portrait is meant to convey an air of strength and nonconformity … it’s effing brilliant! I suspect more character portraits will be released to, at the very least, we still have more photos to look forward to. Peeta should get a portrait for sure … but I wonder how many of the other tributes competing in the Quarter Quell Hunger Games will be featured in official Capitol portraits of their own.
