Check Out All The Memorable Red Carpet Looks From The 2013 Academy Awards

Jessica, Le Sigh.

I never thought I’d be one of those people watching red carpet arrivals 3 hours before an awards show, but last night, there I was. Staring intently at the TV (mainly waiting for Kerry Washington to arrive), watching the red carpet arrivals for the 85th annual Academy Awards. And it was a blast! One of my fave moments (other than when Kerry arrived) was this tiny interaction between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dustin Hoffman. JGL actually hit the red carpet with his Lincoln co-star Sally Field and they ran into Hoffman… and JGL kinda lost it. It was so cute! I mean, he totally kept it together, but when Ryan Seacrest asked him if he knew of Dustin Hoffman, JGL said something like I don’t think any one actor has influenced me more. I’ve seen every one of his movies. And then he went on to say that he’d never met him before, and you could just see the little stan in him when they shook hands. It was awesome! I loved little moments like that, and I loved the big moments… like Jennifer Lawrence‘s Dior Haute Couture gown. Let’s discuss further, inside!

Shannon’s Academy Awards Best Dressed List, In No Particular Order
(Except For The Part Where Jessica Chastain Really Is Number 1):

1. Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé (it’s that thing where her hair and skin and dress all match a little… and normally I wouldn’t likey… but, for some reason on Jess, I lovey).

2. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture (she lit’rally floated on the red carpet, and then she fell when she was accepting her first Oscar, and we loved her even more fiercely… lol)

3. Samantha Barks in Valentino (um. Wait, no. This might be my number one… OMG…)

4. Kerry Washington in Miu Miu (not a lot of color on the red carpet last night, but Kerry brought the heat in this red dress; loved).

5. Zoe Saldana in  Alexis Mabille (almost hated this dress, because it looked like a lot was going on, but no. In the end, I loved it).

6. Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen (because she rocked a tiara and got away with it; don’t try that at home, ya’ll). Oh, and I couldn’t find a great pic of her on the carpet, so go HERE to see what I mean!

7. Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton (OMGaaaahhhhh, I loved it! The color, the hair, the hips– madness! Madness!)

8. Charlize Theron in Dior (y’all know I love a good, strong white dress)

9. Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji (don’t know what it is about her, but she always looks so beautiful on the red carpet; loved the champagne color of her dress)

10. Anne Hathaway in Prada (loved the sleek style of her dress; the lipstick and necklace completed a perfect look).

Stacy Keibler, Amanda Seyfried, and wait OMG. No! Disregard my entire list! Naomi Watts in Giorgio Armani Prive!  Naomi Watts in Giorgio Armani Prive!  Naomi Watts in Giorgio Armani Prive! LMAO, loved it! So much of the fashion was sooo appropriate for the Oscars, and I can appreciate that, but a few people (like Naomi, and like Samantha Barks) took a risk. Love them for that!

Who had your favorite looks of the night?

  1. i loved adele is the sparkly dress, octavia spencer in a dress that looked like frosting so much that i wanted to swirl a cupcake in it, naomi watts in that crazy silver number and amy adams in the fluffy gray thing.

clearly i am not a fashion writer. oh.

  2. Nooo. I just wrote out this lengthy comment (sorry) about my favorites and how Oscar fashion was finally upon us and it didn’t let me post it!! Nooooooo!! :’(

    • ClaireMichelle, try it again (copy/paste it somewhere, lol)and if it doesn’t work e-mail it to me: shannon@pinkisthenewblog.com and I’ll post it for you. We need to hear your thoughts! And I’ve heard from another reader that there have been issues with commenting.

    • It may my computer, but this site has been really slow to load for the past couple of days. I’m not having the same issue with other sites. I am being positive and thinking it is because there is too much traffic. Perhaps it is a cross scripting error that disagrees with my settings. Just FYI.

    • I am having the same problem! It takes a minute or two to load the site anytime I go to it, but when I go to links within the site they load at a quick, normal pace!

My favorites were Anne, Kerry and Stacy Keibler….absolutely stunning.

I love me some Reese, but that dress was just a giant no. Elle Woods would NOT approve.

  4. Gillian

Really? Anne Hathaway? I am not a fan. That dress gave her some weird looking pointy nipples! Picture #6 – from the waist up it looks like an apron. A pointy nipple light pink apron.

    • Agreed. It was incredibly underwhelming for me. And yeah, the pointy nipples illusion wasn’t my favorite thing in the world either. She was like ” My mom said is business in the front, party in the back” and I’m like “Nah-uh, there’s no party in the back, Anne. Just no.”

    • I heard this critique of Anne’s dress, but I felt like few risks were taken stylistically on the red carpet last night and I liked it.

    • @Shannon — Pointy nipples are never the answer on the red carpet. Never.

    • Am I the only one who noticed that the top of her dress was see-through? Like, I could see her nipples and under boob!

    • Trent, LMAO! Pointy nipples are ALWAYS the answer. Wait. What?

No, but for real. I like the dress! And I really wasn’t focused on her nipples… but now that we have a whole nipple thread popping off on this post, I AM focused on them. Forever. Thank y’all. LMAO.

      #NippleThread

    • Carl

I didn’t notice the nipples until others pointed it out either….how odd! But now, I’m highly aware. #NippleGate2013

    • Gillian

I totally understand wanting to take a risk… But! When you are the front winner it’s best to play it safe. You do not want your Oscar winning moment to be upstaged by your nipples.

    • The nips were a desperate attempt to make up for a very bland dress.

  5. I almost FREAKED THE HELL OUT because Naomi Watts wasn’t on your list! LMAO! (You should had seen my face as I read the post. I’m cracking up now.) That dress was everything for me! My favorite of the night, hands down.

My friend didn’t like it because “it was too sci-fi for her” and I was like “hm, maybe I like it because it’s sci-fi ENOUGH for me…” Fashion is so complicated. LOL!

  6. I LOVED Kerry Washington’s dress, Naomi, and Charlize. They all were stunning.

I loved JLaw’s dress on top (especially the backwards necklace floating on her shoulders), but I thought the skirt was way too much like a down comforter. It was too thick of material, IMO. I was literally like “Oooooh” when I saw the top, and they switched to a full view and I groaned. Loudly.

She looks like the Oscar itself!

  8. Commented on this photo:

Nice view of you leaving, Anne!

  9. Commented on this photo:

Everybody looked nice, some much better than others, but there was only one standout…. Ms. Theron was absolutely flawless.

OK, so, I’m totally Team Aniston, I love her to death, so I’m gonna pull a Janis Ian here (’cause this is only ok when I say it)… Sigh.. Jen, sweetie… More hair brush, less botox next time, ok?
