‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Releases A First Promo Poster

Later this year, the sequel film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will open in theaters but today … the promo push for the film gets officially underway. A new promo poster for Catching Fire has been released and as you can see below, it promotes the Victory Tour that characters Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson) embark upon after their successful co-win of the 74th annual Hunger Games (as seen in the 2012 film The Hunger Games). The poster below is striking yet somewhat minimal. It comes to us via HitFix who, along with the poster, presents us with a creative piece of narrative that is meant to align with the storyline of the film. Click below to see the poster in full and get a taste of what’s to come when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens in theaters this November.

If you’re a fan of the Hunger Games each year, then you’re probably still just as stunned as I was by the way the 74th annual games wrapped up. I’ll admit, at first I was upset by the idea that they had thrown out the rules and changed things just to give Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Meelark a happy ending, but the more I’ve thought about it, the more I think they deserved to win. After all, the Games are about out-thinking your opponents just as much as it’s a physical challenge, and it was just plain strategically brilliant for Katniss to make the move she did. It was the only way either of them was really going to “win,” and it forced the Capitol to really decide what they want. Is the point of the Games to crush every player, no matter what, or is it to give us a new hero every year, someone to remind us of the best of what we can be and do? If that’s the goal, then this year is the bonus plan, because I think both of these players are worth our admiration. We here at HitFix are pleased that the Capitol reached out to us to help premiere this Victory Tour poster, and I don’t know about you, but when Katniss and Peeta make their stop in my district, I’ll definitely turn out to see them live and in person. It’s strangeā€¦ I know they’re still part of the system, and nothing has really changed, but there’s something about the way they pulled off their win that has given me something akin to real hope for the first time in a long time. I wonder if that makes President Snow nervous at all. Because it should.

I love this poster! With just this one image, we are immediately taken back into the world of The Hunger Games … which should trigger all those excitement neurons on Hunger Games fans. I am really looking forward to this sequel. I loved the first film and I’m really anxious to see how they are able to bring the second installment to life in Catching Fire. November may be a long way off but hopefully we’ll get to see more promo stuff like this to make the wait not seem so horrible. This poster is cool, right?

Hmmm. They made Josh as tall as Jennifer, which for some odd reason is bugging the hell out of me. Jennifer usually towers him, but yeah than again, Katniss is supposed to be shorter than Peeta.

Despite that little thought in my head, this is perfect. I love it.

      LOL! I love this.

A poster featuring Peeta and Katniss close up was also released!! I cannot control my excitement!!! Seriously!!! It’s too much!!!

Also, @Iris B I’m pretty sure Josh is taller than or the same height as Jen when she isn’t in heels! :)

    • @ClaireMichelle — I was going to add that second poster to this post but I think I’ll slap it up in its own post :D

LOL – I think so. Like I said, no idea why the hell it bugs me. I guess it just looks too much of him protecting her when Katniss is fire. I saw it on my Facebook today and jumped up and down, both posters!

Don’t you think the Capitol would want Katniss looking a bit less powerful than she is?

I love the promo poster, but I think the accompanying blurb is extremely unrealistic for the Hunger Games universe. Um, as if anyone would have the balls to write commentary like that! President Snow would definitely have that person killed. Plus it’s not supposed to be spelled out that obviously…people in the districts start feeling more and more hope until it snowballs into a full-blown revolution.

Um, I’m kind of a book purist if you can’t tell…

AAAHHHH!!!! I’m like a kid waiting on Christmas, I can NOT wait till this movie! The midnight excitement, waiting in line, and then watching the movie at midnight (and the day after of course ;)

oooh i like. i see Peeta is taking ‘how to fake being tall’ tips from Tom Cruise.

“Is the point of the Games to crush every player, no matter what, or is it to give us a new hero every year, someone to remind us of the best of what we can be and do?” Um, actually, the point of the Games is neither, my friend. You know better…

In all seriousness, these narratives and the way capitol.pn works as HG promo is equably amusing as it is freaky. The HG world isn’t a world I would exactly yearn to role play in (which is the freaky part), but the way people embrace the mentality and vision of the Districts is amusing.

Excited for movie but annoys me still that JH in no way looks like what Peeta should, as if they made him blonde as a after thought.
