Great news, Frank Ocean fans … our boy has let it spill that he has already begun work on his next album … which he believes might turn out to be a kinda sorta concept album. In an new radio interview, Frank reveals that he has about 10 or 11 songs ready to go. It’s unclear if he’s written those songs or if he’s recorded those songs but … 10 or 11 songs is enough for an album already! Click below to read what Frank has to share about his forthcoming new as-yet-untitled album.
Frank Ocean has revealed that he has started work on a new album. The singer explained that he has already written ten songs for the follow-up to 2012’s Channel Orange and will record more later this year. “I’m like 10,11 songs into this next thing,” Ocean told Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show. “It’s another cohesive thing bordering on a concept album again. “At the end of Channel Orange there’s ‘Golden Girl’ and I kind of want to extend that feeling into the next record. I’m going to Bora Bora when I get back and setting up a studio there and see what happens.” Ocean declined to confirm if he has any plans to collaborate with other artists for the new collection, but revealed who he is currently listening to. “I was in the studio with Pharrell just yesterday [February 18], Tyler [,The Creator] came by and we were just playing records. As far as collaborations in the future for me, I don’t know,” he explained. “There’s this kid King Krule who is really sick and I would love to do something with. He has a special voice, really cool. I’m getting in with Danger Mouse when I get back to the States. Usually when I meet these guys, if we happen to write something then we do, but it’s good to just feel these things out. I love Tame Impala, Tyler put me onto them and they’re wicked. Their music has a freedom to it.”
This. Is. AMAZING! I think it’s clear to anyone with ears that Frank Ocean is an extremely talented musician. For various reasons, he reminds me of Prince in that both men have a gift for being very prolific with their song-craft. I’m not at all surprised that Frank already has about 10 songs ready to go but I wouldn’t count on those songs making up the entire album. I suspect his planned trip to Bora Bora will yield some exciting inspirations for him so, yeah, this all sounds very promising. My only concern is that he might take a really long time to put together his album but … he is a genius and geniuses can’t be rushed. Still, I’m really hoping this talk of a new album means we’ll be hearing new music this year. Fingers crossed, woot!
