Earlier today I gushed a little bit that The Carrie Diaries is my fave new show of this new season … but I must confess that Arrow, also on The CW, is my fave new show of the Fall season. Arrow made it’s promo debut last August and it’s series debut in October and I have been loving the show from day one. I’m very happy to pass along the fantastic news that the show has been picked up for a second season this coming Fall. There haven’t been many new shows that have grabbed my attention this year but Arrow definitely has … particularly because of star Stephen Amell and his excellent work as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.
The CW has given early renewals for its three shows, “Arrow”, “The Vampire Diaries” and “Supernatural”. Freshman hit “Arrow” will return for a sophomore season, supernatural series “TVD” will get a fifth season, while long-running drama “Supernatural” will be back for a ninth season. “We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz on Monday, February 11, “and now with our new hit ‘Arrow’ and fan favorite ‘Supernatural’ on Wednesday night, and the continued success of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that.” He added, “Not only do [all three] perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.” All of the three shows are expected to return with the new season next fall.
It is hard to make a superhero like the Green Arrow a believable character on TV … his weapon of choice is a bow and arrow, for pete’s sake. I’ve been really impressed with the way The CW has been able to not only make the superhero believable … but also extremely likable. I can’t say that Green Arrow has ever been my favorite superhero (I even prefer Aquaman over Green Arrow, in terms of the comics) but I really do love the character in this new series. So we know that season 2 is on the way but season 1 isn’t even close to being finished just yet. Here’s a trailer for the forthcoming second half of the premiere season:
While I cannot say that I’m all that excited by another season of The Vampire Diaries (a show that I used to love and now find terribly boring), I am really looking forward to more episodes of Arrow. I would LOVE The CW to do for Wonder Woman what they have done for Green Arrow but until they get their shizz straight, it looks like I’ll be hanging with Oliver Queen and his arsenal of bow and arrows :)
