‘Girl Meets World’ Casts Rowan Blanchard As Cory And Topanga’s Daughter

They'll Also Have A Son!
Spy Kids: All The Time in the World in 4D' premiere in Los Angeles

As many of you know, the Boy Meets World sequel is officially in the works. A little while back Ben Savage (AKA Cory) spoke out about Girl Meets World, in attempt to assuage some of our concerns about the re-vamping of a 90s favorite. Today we’re getting a few more deets about the show and some casting news! Little Rowan Blanchard has officially been cast as Cory and Topanga‘s daughter, and I personally think she looks the part! Click inside to learn more!

Vulture has the story:

Welcome Rowan Blanchard to Disney’s star-making machine. The 11-year-old actress, who’s appeared in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D and The Back-up Plan, has been cast as Girl Meets World star Riley. Meaning she’s the offspring of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, who’ll be awesomely reprised by Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. “As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews,” says Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs. “Rowan is real and accessible and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well.” Girl Meets World starts production shortly, aimed at the 2013-14 season as long as Disney Channel makes the pickup.

And Vulture later updated the casting news with this:

Now there are a few more character descriptions, including a second Matthews offspring, 13-year-old son Elliott. “This guy will start the series as a ‘thinking man’s jock,’” writes EW. ”He’s described as ‘good looking, well built, funny and insightful in his observations. Good hearted except for his dedication toward using Riley [his sister] as his wrestling practice dummy.’”

So, I love this little girl who’s been cast as the daughter.  PITNBR Megan expressed some concern a while back over the fact that many of the young, lead actresses on the Disney shows rarely look like actual, little girls. But Rowan definitely does, and I think this one will  be fun to watch. What do you guys think? Are you into it?

  1. Dianna L.

She is perfect and really looks like she could be their daughter! I love it! The more I see, the more I’m interested in watching the show when it premieres.

  2. Joanna

It helps that the original creator of Boy Meets World is on board with this. If he didn’t have involvement I would have been very very worried. It will be interesting to see who they get to play Cory and Topanga’s older son. The description of the kid sounds a bit like Eric if Eric were a jock. If that’s the case the character could turn out to be hilarious, if they get the right kid.

    • Joanna, ‘the original creator of Boy Meets World is on board with this’– ah! You’re so right, and I’d forgotten about that. I think that’s definitely going to help the new series.

  3. I can’t believe how much she really looks like Cory and Topanga! So impressive! And yes, she actually looks like a kid (just like the BMW cast did). I am so excited about this that I have been having intense Boy Meets World marathons lately.

  4. I just want to give her a big hug!!
