Tina Fey set hearts a-flutter on the red carpe of the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards last night when she confirmed that she is adapting a Broadway stage musical version of the screenplay she penned for the ICONIC film Mean Girls. YES FOLKS, THIS IS REAL LIFE!!! Honestly, there have been rumors that Fey was secretly working on a Mean Girls musical but I don’t recall that she’s ever talked about it publicly (probably because no one thought to ask her about it). Last night, she was asked … and she answered … and the heavens erupted with majestic celebration as angels sang on high heralding a joy previously unknown to man … or something like that ;D
MEAN GIRLS on Broadway? How Gruel! During an interview with E! News on the red carpet of tonight’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, Tina Fey announced some big, breaking news to host Giuliana Rancic: she is nearing a deal with Paramount Pictures to develop a musical based upon her hit movie, MEAN GIRLS. “Before I let you go, ‘Mean Girls The Musical?’ Is that real?”, questioned Rancic. “I would love to,” replied Fey. “I’m trying to develop it actually with my husband who does all the music for ’30 Rock.’ I think Paramount’s on board. Yeah.” When Rancic compared cat-fighting American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj to characters in the film, Fey joked, “Maybe she [Mariah Carey] can play Amy Poehler’s part in the musical!” Fey has frequently discussed the potential project in recent years, but tonight, she seemed to imply that it was very close to happening, and from her level of excitement, it appears the talks were held semi-recently.
AHHHHHHH!!!!!! I can’t … I just can’t … can you imagine? Man, the possibilites are driving me crazy! Mean Girls is such a fun movie with such great characters … I can easily see how so many brilliant aspects of the story could be adapted into song. The plastics? C’mon!! LOVE IT! Irregardless of whether or not you think movies should be adapted into Broadway musicals, you have to agree that THIS IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST IDEA EVER TO CONCEIVED EVER! I mean, am I right?
if when Mean Girls: The Musical opens on Broadway, who wants to go with me to see it?
