It’s been a while since I saw a good Shakespearean adaptation on the big screen, but it sounds like one is in the works! Anne Hathaway has had a pretty huge year. She got hitched, covered Vogue, and starred in a little movie called Les Misérables. Having won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress (for Les Miz), there’s a good chance that she’s gearing up for her first Oscar win as well. Fans of the talented star will be happy to know that she’s just been cast in the latest adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Screw. Click inside to learn more!
Paste Magazine has the story:
According to The Wrap, Anne Hathaway will star in the newest adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Screw.
The comedy plot is reported to be another modern-day retelling set in mid-20th century Italy.
Hathaway, a recent Golden Globe-winner for her performance in Les Misérables, will most likely play the role of Katherine, the “shrew” who unwillingly marries the boastful Petruchio.
Debra Hayward will produce the film through Working Title Films. Abi Morgan, known for Shame and The Iron Lady, will write the screenplay. A director has not yet been attached to this project.
Okay, so this could be really cool. I can’t wait to find out who’s directing, but with this writer attached, I think we can expect very good things. I just saw Shame and Iron Lady this year and I was blown away by both, for very different reasons– I kinda can’t believe that the same person wrote the scripts! I think that’s a good sign though.
So who’s excited for this one? Do you think Anne will make a good Katherine?
