At the end of last year the Miss Universe pageant was held and Miss USA (the lovely Olivia Culpo) won the crown. The pageants have started back up again and last night a new Miss America was chosen. I didn’t get a chance to catch the event, but the new Miss America‘s face is eeeeverywhere this morning. Click inside to learn more about Miss New YorkMallory Hytes Hagan!

E! has the report, and Heavy has this awesome video of her tap dancing to Get Up Off Of That Thing during the talent competition:

Cue the running mascara!

There she is—Miss New York, Mallory Hytes Hagan, or as she’s better known now: Miss America 2013!

The tap dancing 23-year-old from Brooklyn was crowned Saturday evening in Las Vegas, defeating second runner-up Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton.

And the crowning wasn’t the only highlight of tonight’s telecast.

The Chris Harrison and Brooke Burke-Charvet hosted show featured everything from Miss Alabama introducing herself as: “From the state that brought you Channing Tatum, People’s Sexiest Man Alive, You’re Welcome. I’m Anna Laura Bryan, Miss Alabama” to a historymaker with Miss Montana Alexis Wineman, the first autistic contestant in Miss America pagaent history, who took home the win of America’s Choice.

It was a show was full of big moments. Including a dance number to one of America’s favorite boy band hits (One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”) not to mention Gold Medal winning judge McKayla Maroney offering her “not impressed” face, and yes, even Brooke giving her new fitness DVD a rather nice plug.

So what’s next for the new Miss America?

Hagan pockets a $50,000 college scholarship and gets the sparkler-packed crown for one year, during which she is expected to go on a nationwide speaking tour and raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, the organization’s official charity.

Congrats to Mallory! It sounds like last night was kind of a big deal, in general Did anyone catch the event? I LOVE that homegirl tap danced to James Brown. For that alone, she deserves the Miss America crown! Mallory‘s studying at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, so I’m guessing that $50,000 is gonna come in handy. Niiiice!
