Truth And Healing
13 Families: Life After Columbine is set for an August 7th DVD release and the trailer is powerful. While many films have been made about or inspired by the 1999 high school massacre (Michael Moore’s Bowling For Columbine, last year’s We Need To Talk About Kevin), for the very first time we will get to see families of the Columbine victims as they are today, and hear about the way those events shaped their lives.

Sob Story Or Real Talk?
When Michelle Holshue graduated from the University of Pennsylvania she ended up on unemployment and food stamps. Not quite what she expected after taking out $140,000 in student loans. Does this story sound at all familiar? NPR interviewed the young woman, who shares her describes the new student-loan infused version of the American Dream.

Everybody knows Lupe Fiasco is not your typical rapper. He actually cares about what he says, and whether or not it makes sense. And sometimes, there’s even a (gasp!) message in his lyrics. But this new video for Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free) is something else to say the least. Directed by Alex Nazari (who’s worked with Travis Porter, Tyga, and Wiz Khalifa), the video has a gritty feel, complicated by the presence of a few cartoon-character accomplices. In case you were curious, this is usually what people mean when they say, real hip-hop.

So … the much-anticipated male stripper film Magic Mike finally opened in theaters this weekend and I was able to see the film at last. After many months of talking about the film, we can all see what the fuss is about. While I generally liked the movie, I do feel that there were many parts of the film that I didn’t like. I know that many folks are looking forward to seeing this movie because of the male flesh that is exposed but one thing folks should consider before they head to the theater — Magic Mike is a Steven Soderberg film first and a male stripper film second. Yesterday evening, I met up with my dear Ollie for an early showing of Magic Mike in the Cinerama Dome at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood (review forthcoming). After the movie, we met up with Caleb for a late dinner/hang session. Unfortch, David couldn’t accompany us for any of the fun because he was really bizzy with work so, I guess, the mantle fell to me to have a lot of fun for the both of us. More »

She's Over It And So Are We.
We got to hear Lil Wayne‘s ridiculous explanation on the Nicki Minaj/Young Money/Summer Jam fiasco a couple of weeks back, and now we’ve got some words from Nicki herself. And thankfully, it’s not via another interview with Funkmaster Flex. Those two were seriously not working out for me on that last convo. This time, Nicki sat down with the UK’s Tim Westwood. “I want to let people know that I’m not getting on your stage, if you don’t have your mind right,” and other gems inside.

Last night, a Beverly Hills mansion that’s easily recognizable to many of us caught fire and remained ablaze for quite some time. Lisa Vanderpump no longer own the now-famous mansion, having sold the massive property back in September for a smaller estate. But it’s still sad to hear that the beautiful home from the opening credits of the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills show (and the home in which Lisa‘s daughter Pandora was married), experienced some major damage last night. Luckily, nobody was harmed. More deets inside.
