Watch: Whitney Houston’s Final Live Performance Was ‘Jesus Loves Me’
Finale
Just two days before her tragic and untimely death yesterday, Whitney Houston made an on stage appearance at a pre-Grammy Awards party in Hollywood, CA where she jumped up to give an impromptu performance of the church hymn Yes, Jesus Loves Me with singer and friend Kelly Price. Little did people in attendance at the time know that it would prove to be Whitney‘s final musical performance ever. Altho the vocals aren’t her best and yes, she appeared to be a bit … off … I find it ironic, touching and a bit sad that Whitney‘s last song performed ever was Jesus Loves Me (which she originally recorded for the soundtrack of The Bodyguard). It has always saddened me a bit to see Whitney perform in this way. She did it last year when she jumped on stage to sing with Prince at one of his 21 Night Stand in LA concerts at the Forum (you may recall that I was in attendance at that show). But, despite my sadness, I always took comfort in the fact that she seemed to really enjoy singing still … and anything that made Whitney look this happy was reason for me to be happy.
But back in her hey day, Whitney Houston‘s vocals were the most beautiful thing that existed on Earth. Here is the acapella version of her song How Will I Know:
I get chills hearing her vocals like this. I know far too many people will remember Whitney for her foibles and for what she became near the end of her life … but, as I’ve said all along, if you want to truly remember Whitney Houston for the musical genius she was, all you need do is listen to her sing.

Is it ok that I don’t really wanna watch this right now ?
Yes my Whitney…. Jesus does Love you and so do we. (Tears)
Trent, I am exactly the same age as you, and I have a similar reaction to all of this as you do. It really is as if the soundtrack of my life has suddenly ended, and I’m a bit lost. :( Peace be with you, Whitney, you were loved here on earth.
I have watched her “Star Spangled Banner” approximately 802 times today.
we loved you whitney
your always here. :(
Sadly, reminds me of Amy’s last performance with her God child. Whitney had been irratic for days leading up to her death. Saddens me that she had no one around her with the balls to say ENOUGH! Rehab now, or a 5150. You pick, sweetheart. We, and tens of millions of people love you! I know, you can lead a horse to water….and ultimately, only we are in charge of our destiny. RIP Whitney; you are loved and will be missed terribly!
Unfortunately, there is very little you can do to force someone into rehab, and it’s virtually impossible to get someone committed against their will. Even if you are able to get a 5150 (which is usually only done when someone is an imminent danger to themselves and others), there’s no guaranteed that they will be kept in a facility for as long as they need. In November my mom was in on a 5150 for the second time in a month (she’s an alcoholic and had tried to kill herself twice)and the hospital was still ready to release her after 24 hours. All because she was giving them the answers they wanted to hear. People will only change when they want to change, and drugs and alcohol are a demon that none of us can understand unless we’ve experienced it firsthand. It’s heartbreaking to lose someone like Whitney, someone still so young, so talented and loved by so many.
Ironic but fitting at the same time for me. As much as her amazing music touched my soul throughout my life, whenever I think of Whitney for whatever reason, her voice singing Jesus Loves Me is the first thing that comes to mind. It was always so pure and beautiful. As another poster commented, I’m not ready to watch the video yet of her last performance.
