Björk Performs ‘Biophilia Live’ At The New York Hall Of Science
The TV Guide

Early last month I passed along the exciting info that visionary musician Björk was planning a 10 concert residence in NYC as part of her Biophilia Live Tour. Last night I was able to attend the 4th concert performance of Björk‘s NYC residency at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY. Over the years, I’ve missed out on a lot of Björk concerts (I used to have the WORST luck with show cancelations) but I was able to see her on her Voltaïc: The Volta Tour when she performed at Radio City Music Hall back in 2007 and KNEW I had to see her again as soon as possible. Last night was my chance … and it was a GLORIOUS performance.

Björk is notorious for not allowing cameras at her shows, which always struck me as strange considering how much she loves utilizing the newest technology … but it was explained last night that the performance was created in such a way as to provide an intimate concert experience that should be enjoyed in the now, not at home later in pictures or video. That’s a rationale I can respect. Björk‘s concert was performed in the round so that more people could be closer to the stage. She performed with a 3 person band (a percussionist, a harpist and an electronic musician) and a 20 person chorus (all Icelandic women). Björk wore a beautiful plastic dress that looked like it was made out of those fun bouncy balls we used to play with as kids. As you can see in the setlist above, she performed many songs off of Biophilia in addition to some of her older songs. Her performance of Possibly Maybe was absolutely stunning. She joked that she hadn’t performed the song “in about 30 years” and revealed that she had not rehearsed the song beforehand … but she sang it beautifully. Last night’s concert performance was one of those concerts that I will remember for all time, truly. Björk was no more than 10 feet from me at any given time (even closer when she walked over to my side of the stage) and it felt like she was singing to me. I have a ticket to see her again next week when we return to NYC from our European trip so I’m really looking forward to seeing this show again :)

Tonight, David and I fly back to Amsterdam 6 years after we met there. Our 6 year anniversary is tomorrow and we wanted to mark the occasion in the city we met, at the hotel we stayed in. After a few days there, we make our way to London for a few more days then we’re back to NYC. We are very excited … so, yeah, I’ll be coming atcha from Europe starting tomorrow. Melissa will be holding down the fort here in the US thruout our trip so … it’ll be business as usual here on Pink is the New Blog! Have a great Thursday and I’ll see y’all in Amsterdam!

Thanks for the review. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to bite the bullet and get a ticket for the roseland shows. I think you just convinced me.
    Happy Anniversary
