Watch: Hustle Roses Releases Her Solo Debut Music Video For ‘Alive’
The Birth of a Star

It is with extreme pleasure and great honor that I get to share some exciting news with all y’all. My good friend Ollie, of the amazing band The Oohlas, is readying the release of her solo debut EP under the name Hustle Roses and today shares with the world her debut solo music video for her new single Alive. Now, I have to tell you … I am BEYOND thrilled that I am able to share the video for Alive with the world because I have been in love with the song for a few months now. Tequila Mockingbird, the debut EP from Hustle Roses, will be available officially on February 1 … but you can stream the songs and purchase the EP TODAY! Check out the music video for Alive below and learn more about Hustle Roses and her exciting new music.

This beautiful video, directed by our friend and photographer Tamar Levine, was shot here in LA and really captures the fun spirit of the song. I mean, this video is just really freaking cool. Alive is the lead single from the Tequila Mockingbird EP which includes 3 other songs. Here is the official coverart for Tequila Mockingbird and a little something that Hustle Roses wrote for the EP release:

i played guitar and sang in this band called the oohlas in los angeles, california a couple years or so ago. while waiting to get out of a deal at island records, each of us ventured into other projects – and i started to write loner songs on garage band with my ukulele while i lived in koreatown. the inspiration for this EP started when i went to new york and started working with jonathan benedict of lindbergh palace. he and i reworked some early songs at his studio in brooklyn. at the time, i hadn’t written songs with anyone else but the oohlas so this was very exciting for me. i started to develop some songs with other songwriters all over los angeles and new york. i have written over 30 songs in the past 3 years and present to you now this EP collection of songs … love songs to the earth written on tequila and hundreds of walks over bridges connecting the two most important cities in my life so far.

You can visit the official Hustle Roses homepage HERE and head to her online store HERE to stream and/or purchase this EP. I have been loving this collection of songs for months now (85 Blocks is THE BEST SONG EVER!) so I’m really excited that they are now available to everyone else. Check out the video, listen to the songs and BUY the EP, y’all. Hustle Roses is the real deal … and as much as I am lucky to call her a friend, I am just as happy to be a fan :)

Her music might be decent, but blatantly stealing your name from a Metric song is pretty lame…

    • Trent Trent says:

@Meganator — Hustle Roses refers to a line from the Charles Bukowski poem ‘Consummation Of Grief’: “I was born for this / I was born to hustle roses down the avenues of the dead.” http://des.emory.edu/mfp/bukowski.html This Bukowski poem is likely where Metric “stole” the inspiration for their song title.

      • AmandaNikita says:

Oh, snap. I love Bukowski, and Metric. Also I’m pretty sure 90% of artists tend to takes song/band names from movies and literature.

For instance/fun fact, “The Doors” got their name from William Blake’s line “If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear as it is – infinite”. So yeah, not a big deal.
