Madonna Talks To Graham Norton About Her New Album, Her New Film & Lady Gaga
Music, Movies and Marriage! Madonna Talks About It All!

Yesterday we learned the exciting news that Madonna has decided to name her next album M.D.N.A. The title was revealed during a taping of The Graham Norton Show which is scheduled to air in the UK on BBC tomorrow night. The show will air here in the US Saturday night on BBC America but right now you can read a TON of interview quotes from Madonna. During the course of her chat with Graham Norton, Maddy talked about her upcoming new album, her directorial debut film W.E. and other stuff … like Lady Gaga. Click below for an early preview of Madonna‘s interview appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

Talking about her upcoming album, Madonna says, “It’s out soon, as soon as people download it by hacking into my server and leak it. It’s terrible. Why can’t people just wait and let me finish it. I keep saying to my manager, ‘Are they really my fans? If they love me so much why don’t they let me finish it and put it out when I want to put it out?’ It’s very confusing behavior.” Asked what the title of her new album is, she says, “The only reason I hesitate is because I am known to change my mind and you might not like it.” After much pleading by Graham and his audience, Madonna reveals, in a world exclusive, “I’m into initials so I’m going to call it ‘MDNA.’”

In regards to her work on W.E., Madonna had this to say:

“I am super proud of it, it’s three years of my life. It was extremely time consuming, a labor of love.” Asked what inspired her about Edward and Mrs. Simpson, she says, “When I first moved to England I felt like a real foreigner, outsider idiot and I thought I needed to educate myself about English history so I started with Henry VIII, as one does, and worked my way up to the Windsor family and was stopped in my tracks by this incredible story about the idea that a man would give up the most powerful position in the world for love.” Talking about possible parallels between Wallis Simpson and her own life, she jokes, “Well, I am not as skinny as her!” adding, “There are many aspects to her life that people reduced to couple of character traits, which weren’t very complimentary and she was labeled ambitious, heretical and conniving and quite one-dimensional. I thought that was really unfair and sometimes, being a celebrity, one finds oneself being reduced to adjectives that aren’t actually true, so I can relate to that,” Adding, “I live in a different era and have the ability to defend myself, they couldn’t in those days.” Revealing that the film almost didn’t get made, she says, “It was problematic and I started thinking, ‘What am I doing, it’s about the Royal Family and are they going to hate my guts? And am I right to throw myself into this juggernaut?’ But then I had a sign. The doorbell rang, I answered the door and there was no one there but there was a removal van outside the house and it said ‘Montague Removals.’ Montague was Wallis Simpson’s maiden name and I thought that is sign, the universe is trying to tell me something.” Talking about romance and perfect love, she says, “It’s not that I ever believed in perfect love but if you are a romantic like me, you want to be swept off your feet by a knight in shining armor. “Unfortunately we are raised on those fairytales and even if we are sophisticated, educated, intellectually evolved human beings we still, in the back of our mind, think that Mr. Right is going to come along and we are going to live happily ever after. In the front of our minds we keep getting reminded it’s not true and in the back of our minds we keep thinking it’s true so we keep getting disappointed. It’s a paradox – you want it, but if you have half a brain you know it doesn’t really exist.” Asked if she sees herself ever walking down an aisle again in an ‘I do’ situation Madonna says, “I could actually. Yes.”

Naturally, Madge got asked the Lady Gaga question … here is her response:

“When I first saw her perform in a small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I loved her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy and when she spoke to the audience she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic and I liked her. I do think she is very talented.”

Madonna was then asked about being a parent to her four children — Lourdes Maria, Rocco John, David Banda Mwale and Chifundo Mercy James:

Talking about being a parent, knowing she’s broken every rule in the book, she says, “I tell them ‘You can’t cheat and you have to work hard and that’s how you get ahead in the world. If I see them slacking I can stand by that – no one can say I didn’t work hard. And then if I say to my daughter, ‘That outfit is a little bit too risqué or revealing’ and she looks at me and says, ‘That’s rich coming from you,’ I say, ‘When you are 15 you are going to have to let me guide you in the dressing department and then when you are older you can make decisions for yourself.’ So we have lots of discussions. And sometimes, you just have to say, ‘Because I said so!’” Asked whether she looks back at what she put her father through in her youth, she says, “Yes, I now have tremendous amounts of compassion for him and I feel a great sense of remorse for my hideous adolescent behavior.”

Dang … Graham made sure to ask Madonna everything about everything … and I LOVE IT! I am SO happy that we yanks here in the US get to see The Graham Norton Show in full on BBC America just one day after the interview airs in the UK (click HERE for more info on how to watch The Graham Norton Show here in the US). With Madonna‘s Nightline interview airing here in the US tonight, her Good Morning America and 20/20 interviews airing tomorrow and this Graham Norton interview airing Saturday night — we are going to have PLENTY of Madonna to go around. Holy shizz! We are on the brink of a new era of Madonna, y’all … I think it’s time to get SERIOUSLY excited!

I’m actually really interested in W.E. I’m a huge British royalty buff and some of the actors in the cast are really great. I’m hope it doesn’t suck. I really want it to be good.

Graham is fantastic. I absolutely love the format of his show. You almost always get to see a different side of the guests that what you normally get.

This is a very good, candid interview. One thing I have to go against is how harshly she always seems to criticize fans for listening to leaked songs. I mean, does she know what year it is? The internet runs the world and free downloads and leaked music is going to happen to any big artist. It’s clearly about the finances (which she does not need), and that really bothers me. Nothing makes me respect a band more when they respond by saying they are flattered and just want the fans to hear the music.

i think what she meant is that (as any other artis who is working on a song, painting, writting), would like to finish it before it gets released.
