Kevin Federline Hospitalized For Suspected Cardiac Arrest
Heart Attack Scare For Britney's Ex

The best way to get your celeb news has got to be from… your grandmother in Australia! I woke today to an email from my granny about K-Fed.
Kevin Federline, Britney Spears’ ex hubby, has been taken to hospital in Australia following worries of a potential heart attack.

He has been in Aussie land for the filming of a reality TV series called Excess Baggage, which is an Australian weight loss show where a celeb is teamed up with an everyday person and they work together to lose weight and get fit again. Kevin says on the promo video about why he wants to lose weight and get back to his healthy body, because he can drink “24 cans of soft drink a day.”

News reports are saying that Kevin was attending an AFL (Aussie football) training session in the filming of an episode when he complained of chest pains.

Fremantle Media’s on-set paramedics treated him at the scene with oxygen and feared he had suffered a heart attack given that his pulse rate was very high, a statement from the Nine Network says. An ambulance took the 105kg reality show contestant to Mt Druitt Hospital where he is currently undergoing tests.

The news sources said that this is also the second time Kevin has has suffered a medical problem on set since filming began nine weeks ago. He apparently had heat exhaustion when they filmed the first episode in the Kimberleys, in northern Australia.

This is scary because K-Fed is only 33 years old! It is very hot and humid in Australia at the moment, and I have often thought that these reality TV weight loss shows, like Biggest Loser can be very irresponsible as they push contestants way too far… I hope that K-Fed is ok and gets well soon. Yikes!

This is so sad, he used to be a dancer and now he’s so out shape.

Cardiac arrest or heart attack. Two different things… cardiac arrest being more serious and dramatic. Heart attack also being different than chest pain and rapid heart rate.

According to the articles from the other websites, they’ve been using both terms in the same article… and I don’t think most people know the difference.

    • ChristineLA says:

Hee, too true. It must be said, I would hope there was not a case of “suspected” cardiac arrest at a hospital. They really should be able to determine if the ticker is still beating.

    • megs says:

Cardiac arrest is the heart actually stopping and a person would be VSA (dead). Caused many times as a result of a Heart Attack (myocardial Infarction) which is a lack of blood flow to a certain area of the heart.
Chest pain is “normally” a symptom of an MI but not always. Of course you can have a rapid heart rate for many reasons.

wasn’t he already on an American weight-loss reality show?

  6. J says:

If you really want it clarified: He was treated for symptoms of minor cardiac arrest and was taken by ambulance to Mt Druitt Hospital. However, an ECG later revealed that he had not suffered a heart attack.
This guy needs to get it together. For real.

    • ChristineLA says:

I think the point is there is no such thing as “minor” cardiac arrest. Your heart is either beating or it isn’t.

      • J says:

um he probably had a dramatic drop in vital sign measurements which is referred to as “coding” or “crashing”, though coding is usually used when it results in cardiac arrest, while crashing might not which is why they said ‘minor’ cardiac arrest.

      • ChristineLA says:

J, when you use terms like “coding” and “crashing”, you aren’t using the actual scientific names for anything. Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops. Period. You can use many forms of slang, but there is not a mild version of it.

wow I weight less than Kfed, thats a shocker.

  9. bleeding ears says:

What celebrity was he teamed up with? : D

  10. Andi says:

um….not to be a stickler for details but a “cardiac arrest” is not the same as a suspected heart attack, or even a heart attack. Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating completely. It is nearly always fatal out in the field, and the stats aren’t much better when someone’s heart stops in the hospital. It can be the result of things like a massive heart attack (Mr. Federline would not be sitting up, awake, with an oxygen mask on him, he would have been unconscious, intubated, and his shirt removed in case he did go into cardiac arrest, they could shock his heart faster), trauma to the chest, or trauma to the brain such as a severe concussion or a stroke.

I’m really not trying to be a b****, it’s just that I think details are important, especially when publishing things…Like if I were a member of his family and I read “cardiac arrest” I would probably crap myself….not that heart attack is nothing to worry about, it’s just a heck of a lot better than a cardiac arrest.

    • Kelly says:

i completely agree about the importance of details. it tells you a lot about the truth of the story…. and what type of “source” it comes from….

      • canaussiegirl says:

If you were a member of his family getting your info from a gossip site, technicalities such as whether it is a heart attack or cardiac arrest are the least of your worries……

    • megs says:

You are right on the cardiac arrest/Heart attack difference.

Now the treatment you talk about would really depend on the level of Paramedics scope of practice in Australia.
Most areas patients are not intubated until they are in fact VSA. High flow O2 by a Non-rebreather is the first treatment given to patients with chest pain. I have had MANY massive MIs sitting up conscious talking to me the entire time. Really depends on the location of the MI, how long it has been going on and how bad the blockage is.
KFed doesn’t even have a cardiac monitor on… so clearly they didn’t have the equipment to properly diagnose and MI. In that case all chest pain (especially in people his size, despite age) would be considered ischemic and is being treated accordingly.
I am a Paramedic in Canada.

The bottom line is that K Fed is woefully out of shape and I’m saddened that he only works on his weight if he gets paid to do so. The man won’t change his lifestyle on his own which places him at further risk. His kids are the ones who are going to suffer and he is totally selfish.

  12. ChristineLA says:

My favorite part of this is the photo. If you look at the original, he’s just sitting in the front seat of some car, but all close up, it looks like a dramatic back of the ambulance shot. Not so much. I wonder if they flagged down a passing motorist for K-Fed to sit in the front seat??

Next step will be a quack who will prescribe a drug regimen when what he really needs to do is lose weight, eat right and exercise. Toxic food and poison drugs will kill you. Only vitamins, minerals and holistic natural health care is safe.
