Earlier this week Trent revealed some pretty massive dramas going on with Lennox Hill Hospital, where Beyonce gave birth to baby Blue Ivy. Extremely tight security had led to other new parents allegedly being prevented from visiting their newborn babies. We were all up in arms, despite our love for B-Jay and the new princess. This was pretty disappointing to hear. Yeterday, we learned that the complaint was investigated by the Health Department. Read below to find out what happened..
A rep for the Health Dept. told the NY Daily News, “Whenever we receive a complaint, we look into it. It’s not necessarily an investigation. It could be a review. Most likely in this case, it would be an investigation.”
News sources earlier this week were saying that at least two families had contacted them about not being able to visit newborns in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit because of security. The hospital’s executive director, Frank Danza, admitted to reporters on Tuesday that ‘certain unusual steps were taken to accommodate the famous couple, such as having security cameras covered up with tape…additional security guards were brought in, but since [having] spoken with half of the dozen or so new parents who were at the hospital over the weekend…none of them reported being blocked from seeing their newborns’.
This is NOT confirmed, but there is talk about those alleged complaints not being credible. NY Daily News wrote that, “In one case, the person who lodged the complaint admitted he had not been in the hospital at the time, but was complaining about what he had read in the newspaper.”
The good news is that a Health Department spokesman has now officially stated that the two complaints were reviewed and have since been DISMISSED.
I for one feel relieved by this news, I didn’t like thinking that Beyonce and Jay-Z had acted in such a selfish way. I am sure that the saga will continue.. with such a hugely famous baby being born, this wont be the end of it. It is great that the complaints were taken seriously by the hospital (despite issues of credibility), and I’m glad that an investigation was done. This was an important issue, I’m just so glad that it didn’t end up showing an ugly side to a pretty special couple.

I think they should have a little bit more privacy than us average joes because of the interest in them but I hope all the other stories we heard weren’t true or like you said that would have been selfish
The reports never made sense and I never believed them. First, sources claimed that Beyonce and Jay-Z had paid upwards of $1.3 million MONTHS before the birth to rent the entire floor she gave birth on. So, if the entire floor was reserved, theoretically no other mothers should have been giving birth on that floor, no?
Secondly, a father reportedly was barred from the NICU where his premature twins were housed by B-Jay’s security. By all accounts Blue Ivy was a healthy newborn, born on a private floor. In a typical hospital, the NICU nursery is completely separate from the healthy newborn nursery, so who was barring this man from seeing his children?
The entire thing is ridiculous. I’m glad that a lot of these rumors are being debunked. Congrats to them on a healthy baby. Kudos to Dad for a sweet song about the kid. Moving on to other celebrity gossip :)
I am glad people are finally getting a reality check. I was suspicious about the “reports” all along. Anymore people take gossip as fact, and this thing just spread like wildfire. The head of the hospital also said:
“The suggestion that the couple paid $1.3 million to rent an entire maternity floor is simply not true,” he said.
He also denied that any other patients were affected. “No security plan that we or the Carter’s security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and to date, no families have complained to the hospital about being denied access to the NICU”.
I LOVE Beyonce’s outfit in this picture. Sorry – off topic… just wanted to throw it out there. Killer boots!
The father I saw on the news seemed very credible – he was not allowed to pass down a hallway to get to the ICU. Security is often overzealous and clients don’t have control over their actions. And the pic they showed of the hospital room? While it looked nice by an average Joe’s standards, it would have been like a Hampton’s Inn hotel room to them. Laughable to think they had that remodeled.
I didn’t like thinking that either…
To be honest, I think all of these “reports” are lies. I’m not denying that someone complained, I’m saying that random parents probably found a rare chance to bank on the situation and took advantage of it. These reports are so sensationalized it’s ridiculous. I feel a bit sorry for Beyonce and Jay-Z now because they’ve invested a lot of effort into keeping their personal lives private for the sake of sanity…and this is what they get.
It’s a little freaking stupid that everyone is blaming them personally for whatever security guards (who are human, and therefore operate on free will like the rest of us) may have said or did to other patients/visitors. It seems that other parents just saw a way to get a little recognition or money by speaking to papers, so they did it.
