E! News is reporting that Beyoncé and hubby Jay-Z have welcomed into the world their first child together. After many weeks of rumor and speculation over whether or not Bey gave birth or not, E! is reporting today that she has — in fact — given birth. As you may recall, we saw photos yesterday of Beyoncé out and about in NYC still very much pregnant … but at some point last night, it is being reported, she gave birth to a baby girl by C-section. Click below for all the reported deets of the birth of baby B-Jay … including the little girl’s name.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed a daughter Saturday night in New York, the little one’s arrival coming via scheduled C-section, multiple sources confirm to E! News. And the pop ‘n’ hip-hop princess’ name? Drumroll, please … Blue Ivy Carter! (At least that’s what Jay-Z is telling pals at this point—the couple’s reps have not immediately responded to calls seeking comment.) Friend and music mogul Russell Simmons was among the first to celebrate the arrival, tweeting the new parents: “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.” Rihanna gave baby Blue a warm welcome, tweeting: “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.” … Beyoncé memorably revealed that she was pregnant onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
Unlike the previous rumors, this report from E! News seems to be the real deal. The fact that celebrity friends like Russell Simmons and Rihanna are tweeting their congratulations seems to be the most telling thing about the verity of this report. There seems to be conflicting reports about the baby’s name tho … E! says her name is Blue Ivy after they originally reported it was Ivy Blue, others maintain her name is Ivy Lewis — at this point, without official confirmation, we can’t be sure … but whatever baby girl B-Jay is named, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that she has, indeed, been born. Still, the name Blue Ivy has people speculating that the name might be a veiled reference to a new Jay-Z album titled The Blueprint IV. HMMMM. The New York Daily News has the reported deets of the strict hospital security measures set in place for Ivy Blue‘s birth:
A very pregnant Beyoncé had checked into the upper East Side hospital on Friday night under the name “Ingrid Jackson,” a hospital staffer told the Daily News. Beyoncé and her hip-hop hubby, whose real name is Shawn Carter, rented out the hospital’s entire fourth floor for $1.3 million, the employee said. On Saturday night, people were seen bringing bags of takeout and a dozen bottles of red wine onto the heavily guarded hospital wing. After 11 p.m., even doctors and nurses were barred from entering the fourth floor, prompting one doc to complain that he had patients to see. In an effort to keep images from leaking to the public, hospital workers placed tape over security cameras and are forcing employees to turn in cell phones when they arrive for their shifts, a source said. Several security guards were spotted patrolling the perimeter of the hospital Saturday night. A Lenox Hill staffer confirmed that a patient named Ingrid Jackson was in a “labor room.” Reps for the power couple did not return requests for comment.
LOL! All I can say is, that shit cray. Let’s send out love and congrats to the entire Knowles-Carter family. I wonder how long it’ll be before we get our first look at Beyoncé‘s baby girl.

If they wanted it to be so private why didn’t she give up the elective c-section and hire a midwife to do a birth at home. I was born a scheduled c-section but that was only because my sister had been born that way due to complications. It kind of makes me sick that so many celebrities would rather have major surgery than do things the natural way which is better for mother and baby. True, I don’t know the circumstances of this kids birth but it seemed fairly planned if they had the whole floor rented out.
Newsflash Celebs; vaginas were designed to give birth.
Give birth with their vaginas?! Good heavens that’s how the peasants do it. Next you’ll be telling me that they should breastfeed rather than have a wet nurse.
LAMO XD!!!!!!!!!!
It’s not just celebs that are having c-sections. Women overall are having more c-sections. From 4.5% in 1965 to 31.8% in 2007
Either because they are not informed, later pregnancy in life, pressure from hospitals/doctors(they get paid more if a woman have a c-section), or complications, such a breeches or otherwise. my mom had a c-section with me but i was about 3 months premature
*pregnancy later in life
It could also be that her due date had passed or there were complications and the doctors didn’t feel it was safe to continue the pregnancy. Let’s not be so judgmental about the choices women make and the reasons they make them.
How hard is it to give a normal name to a child?
But then again they are hanging with Gwen who named her child after a fruit, so i guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Altho , what if this was her “public name” and not her birth name. hehehe.
Much luck to that baby girl.
Oh I know it isn’t just celebrities that opt for the slicing and dicing. Doctors are offering it because it is easier on them and more expensive. :)
My sister-in-law just had a baby here in Germany. (I married a German man) the cost for the entire birth/hospital stay in Berlin was 60euro (about $67). The average American birth without complications is $8,000. If you have a c-section it can be upwards of $35,000. Depending upon where you live.
Anyway, people should be more concerned for the kid’s health and their own health rather than if the vag will be stretched for a few weeks.
$35,000?!?! Holy shit!
Sad but true. We have exorbitant health care cost syndrome in the US because it’s so damned lucrative for the hospitals, HMOs, and doctors to push pricey procedures. It isn’t the real cost, it’s gravy profit.
Well congrats to them. Not fond of the name. I too thought Beyonce would go a more “traditional” name route. But I’m sure they have some special meaning behind the name. Ivy is ok. Wish it was the first name though.
I guess they gave her a name to be splashed in lights for when she’s older.
That was the shortest bump watch ever!!
Wow, this article really makes me dislike her even more.
Good work Surrogate Mother for carrying the child of Beyonce and the Hubby.
Apparently it wasn’t just doctors & nurses that were inconvenienced. Families were prevented from visiting their sick & premature babies, as the NICU was located on the same floor.
One father said he was pretty much locked into the NICU to stop him from walking around the floor.
This seriously disgusts me.
I am finding it very sad reading on other sites that the NICU and SCN is on the floor they shut down and parents with their sick and premature babies in there were turned away from being able to see there children. If this is true, shame on you Beyonce and Jay-z and your team. These babies need skin on skin to thrive, some of them might not make it and parents are being denied the right to spend these precious moments with them. Also what about Mums who need to go in and try to establish breastfeeding? That is at least every three hours. My son was born at 28 weeks and 4 days. I was with him everyday and I couldn’t imagine being turned away due to someone’s selfishness. And considering everything my son was going through I don’t think I would have cared less about some celebrity being in the hospital at the same time. If you happen to read this Beyonce and Jay-z, get someone to take you to the NICU. Have a good look at those small babies, fighting for life and think about what you are depriving them of, the touch and sound of their parents love. The world does not revolve around you.
im due on the 10th june, would much rather have a natural birth you recover quicker from it. and the debate about older women having c sections…my mom gave birth naturally at 40 and she’s a tiny woman too (under 5ft) so if she can do it im certainly not too posh to push!
not certain on the name, i thought blue was a boys name?
Trent, im a little surprised you haven’t included a picture of Blue from Blue Clue’s with the caption Bitch stole my name. and yet, i prefer it over Tiana.
Couldn’t it be possible that they rented out the entire floor, made staff turn in cellphones, covered cameras, and didnt let anyone including staff on the floor because there WAS a surrogate? I understand their need for privacy, but the whole lockdown situation comes off a bit shady.
So glad this is over. All this secrecy surrounding the birth is making me tired. I have expressed time and time again. She is talented and beautiful but damn…I am so over her right now. Even Mariah didn’t go this far. Pity. – A
This is just so selfish! She already has everything, but to prevent others from seeing their new born babies? Does the woman have any decency? How cruel. She should have done a private birth at home with doctors, she has the money to transform one of her many rooms into a mini-hospital. Sure, she’ll coma back with, “Oh, I didn’t know that was going on, I was in labor!” But yeah right, yes she did. Beyond disgusting.
