Shakira’s Baby News Was, In Fact, A Prank

So, the other day we had some confusing baby news for Shakira and her boyfriend Gerard Piqué. The singer’s boo had taken to Twitter to “announce” the birth of their son. But there was lots of speculation about whether or not it was all a joke, since Gerard made the “announcement” on Dia de Los Santos Inocentes, a Spanish holiday somewhat similar to the American April Fool’s Day. And it was, in fact, a prank. Which means the bump watch is officially back on! Click inside for more!

People has the update:

Hold off on the congratulations — at least for now.

News and social media sites lit up on Thursday after Shakira‘s boyfriend, FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Piqué, posted a message on Twitter, announcing the arrival of their baby boy.

“”Our son has been born!” he wrote in Spanish. “We’re very happy! Thank you all for your messages!”

But the baby buzz was short-lived after the father-to-be’s fan following started calling out the coincidental timing of it all — Dec. 28 is Dia de Los Santos Inocentes in Spain and parts of Latin America, a holiday much like April Fools’ Day.

And all bets on baby’s birth were officially off when Piqué confessed to his prank with a follow-up message Friday morning.

“He has a name! His name is Innocence!” he Tweeted. “Happy Day of the Innocents to everyone!”

So yeah. I figured that tweet was the confirmation of prank, lol. A weird prank, IMO. But, okay! We’ll definitely be waiting on the official, official announcement (like, from a publicist or from Shakira herself) before we get our hopes again. Still, looking forward to seeing baby boy soon!

I started to say….that would have been the shortest pregnancy in history. Seems it was just last week we heard the good news. I love Shakira. Genuinely warm person and a damn fine artist!
