Puppet Show

The TV Guide

It looked like yesterday was going to a quiet day in but Emma and Josh decided that we should hang out. I honestly wasn’t too excited about getting out but Josh informed me that the Cinefamily Theater was having a showing of the 1982 film The Dark Crystal at 8:30pm and I knew that it would be the perfect night out. I have never seen The Dark Crystal in a theater before and, for various reasons, I’ve never seen the movie in full. Clearly, I was meant to see it in full, on the big screen last night.

The Dark Crystal came out when I was a very little kid and I remember trying to watch it on VHS (back when people used to rent videos for their brand new VCRs). The damn movie scared me so much I never managed to watch it the whole way thru. There is not a single cute creature in the entire film. I’m still amazed that children love the movie so much because, damn, it’s still creepy today. I am really glad that we went out to see the movie last night tho. Despite it’s creepiness, The Dark Crystal is one of the essential Jim Henson films and really one of the greatest kids films of the 1980s. Last night turned out to be kinda fun, which was a nice surprise.

Today is Xmas Eve and I’ve been invited to spend the evening with Tamar and her family at her parent’s home. I love the Levine family so much and I’m really touched to be invited over so I’m looking forward to tonight. I hope all y’all are having a great Xmas holiday this year. Merry Xmas.

  1. One of my faves!! I’m so jealous you got to see it on the big screen! I remember when I first busted it out for my son to watch when he was little..I hadn’t seen it in a while and was surprised at how creepy it was, but still loved it! As did my son, who would constantly imitate the creepy skeksis noises around the house..
