Here’s a very happy story that will, hopefully, brighten up all y’all’s day today (especially in light of the horrible tragedies that we’ve been dealing with in the past few weeks and days). Over the weekend U.S. Marine Corps captain Matthew Phelps made a surprise marriage proposal to his boyfriend Ben Schock while they were touring the White House to become the first same-sex couple to get engaged inside the White House. That Phelps is also an active military serviceman just puts icing on the cake. Photos of the happy moment when Phelps went down on his knee to ask for Schock’s hand in marriage have made their way online. Click below to share in the couple’s very happy news.
Active duty U.S. Marine Corps captain Matthew Phelps made history over the weekend by proposing to his partner Ben Schock inside the White House. “Such a special night surrounded by wonderful people in an amazing place, and the best is still yet to come,” Phelps wrote on his Facebook page. “Thanks for all the wonderful greetings and messages, and thanks to Barack Obama and Michelle Obama for lending us your home for the occasion!” After a photo of the historic proposal was shared by the American Military Partner Association, it was subsequently picked up and shared by many across multiple social networks. “Ben and I are blown away by the amazing love and support we have received,” Phelps wrote in a follow-up post. “Thank you all so much for sharing in our joy and our lives.”
OMG, this is just … the best. With the holidays approaching, this is the kind of story that truly warms the heart. I can’t even imagine what it must’ve been like for Ben to be surprised like that … but my hat is OFF to Matthew for coming up with a truly spectacular and very special wedding proposal. Let’s send all of our love and warmest wishes to Matthew and Ben on their engagement. May they live very long, very healthy and very happy lives together. Much, much love and congrats you guys :D
