The Hit And Run Charges Against Amanda Bynes Have Been Dismissed

Back in September we learned that actress turned trainwreck Amanda Bynes was formally charged with two counts of hit and run after she allegedly struck two different vehicles while driving around here in LA. Later in the month, Amanda’s attorney entered formal pleas of Not Guilty on both charges. Today we learn that both hit and run charges leveled against Bynes have been dismissed … because she successfully settled with both plaintiffs, despite disapproval by the LA City Attorney. She got off, y’all.

Amanda Bynes is a danger to the public … and a judge should NOT have let her off the hook in her 2 hit-and-run cases after she paid off the victims … this according to the L.A. City Attorney. We broke the story, Bynes was charged with two counts of hit-and-run stemming from two separate incidents over the past year in which she allegedly plowed into cars … and fled the scene. But Bynes has since struck a financial settlement with both sets of victims … and Amanda’s attorney went to court this week and convinced the judge to throw out the criminal charges against the actress. The decision INFURIATED the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, which STRONGLY objected based on the fact that there were multiple incidents and that Bynes has a DUI case pending, stemming from an incident in April when Bynes allegedly crashed into a cop car. As for the DUI case, the District Attorney’s Office is still moving forward with that case — which is scheduled to go in front of the judge next month.

When money talks, the wealthy walk. I can’t say that I’m at all surprised that Amanda managed to settle both of these cases so that she wouldn’t be faced with judicial punishment. As for her DUI charge, well, I’m not entirely confident that she will be forced to pay for that crime either. Despite the LA City Attorney’s desire to see Bynes punished for her crimes, the reality is that because of various circumstances (including jail overcrowding) Amanda will likely only be given a slap on the wrists IF she is convicted of drunk driving. She’ll likely pay a fine, be forced to take a drunk driving class (or maybe given community service) and get off with probation. As we’ve seen from Lindsay Lohan’s countless probation punishments, it doesn’t seem that Amanda will learn any lessons here … well, except for the lesson that behaving badly in Hollywood gets you a lot of attention and little to no punishment at all. Hurray for Hollywood.
