Watch: ‘American Idol’ Begins Promoting The ‘Mariah Carey Vs. Nicki Minaj’ Feud

Back in October we learned that new American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj got into a heated verbal argument while filming auditions for the next season of the show. Today we learn that Idol producers have decided to use the diva “feud” as a promotional tool for the show. At the time of the initial argument, some people speculated that the “feud” was merely a way for the show to generate buzz until the new season of Idol premieres next year. It would seem, at least to me, that that speculation might have some validity. Click above to watch the new Idol promo that pits Mimi vs. Nicki in what they call “The Ultimate Diva Decider” in an attempt to convince you to watch the show. So … convinced?

Well, they are definitely promoting this fight as a much more lighthearted matter than we have all come to know from the rumors. If there is nothing else on I might watch. I would genuinely like to hear Mariah critique aspiring singers. I feel like she would have a lot of good advice and wouldn’t sugar coat. I love that it’s just the two females fighting, Keith and Randy are fine. Ugh, why do us women always end up pitted against each other?

    • @ClaireMichelle — “why do us women always end up pitted against each other?”

IMHO it’s because men are primarily in charge of the programming

Oh, yes. I can totally see that. Can’t we all just get along?!

Haven’t watched this show since Paula left, but will be tuning in since Mariah is on. However, if Mariah and Nicki go back and forth with each other on a regular basis it will get old for me very fast. I would like to think Mariah is too classy to do something like that and want to remember her as a fantastic singer and not a childish figure on a waning reality show. On a side note, Trent have you been enjoying Britney on the X Factor? SO glad they gave Nicole the axe. She was unwatchable last year LOL.

Nicole is now on The UK XFactor and at first I was horrified because she was terrible on the US version but I’ll give her her dues, she has been amazing on the UK version! She must have gotten a script writer because she has been hilarious and comes across great!

To be clear this isn’t a commercial that Fox is running here in the U.S. It’s running on Australia Ten network which will be showing American Idol on.
