26.2 Miles Or Bust!

So … by the time this entry is posted, I will be at the starting line of the 40th annual Honolulu Marathon — my first marathon ever! I’ve been here in HI for a few days and I’ve been having the time of my life! But the time for rest and relaxation is on pause because for the next few hours I will be running a 26.2 mile race. Dumb, I know ;) Actually, as much as I know I’m not properly prepared for the daunting task of running a full marathon, I fully intend on crossing that finish line … one way or another :) Despite my fears, I think I’ll be ok … but we’ll soon find out.

If you would like to follow along with me, my Facebook profile (facebook.com/trentvanegas) is set up to be updated as I run the race. My Runmeter app will post my start time and any comments left by folks (ahem, YOU) will be read aloud to me along the way live as they are posted. I honestly don’t know how the day will turn out. I could surprise myself and run a decent race. I could also meltdown somewhere and be forced to slowly finish the race. I’m very confident that I will finish the race by my own power. As I keep saying, I’m hoping for a respectable first marathon time. Over dinner last night, I guessed to Emma that I might be finished in 5:48:32 so … let’s see how close I get to that time (without going over).

It’s marathon day! May the force (and all y’all’s love and support be with me).
