Katy Perry Is Billboard Magazine’s 2012 ‘Woman Of The Year’

Yeah. That Sounds About Right.

Mila Kunis and Miranda Kerr have been crowned the two Sexiest Women Of The Year, and Channing Tatum is (for some) the Sexiest Man of 2012. Sexy is good, sexy is fun, but to be named Woman or Man of the year is a distinction of a different color. Katy Perry has just been named Billboard’s Woman Of The Year and, without having any of her records, this news makes perfect sense to me. Her impact is undeniable and I’m kind of excited to see this upcoming issue of Billboard. Click inside to learn more!

Katy Perry Is Woman Of The Year

ThisGoesIn has the deets:

Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream era has been absolutely historical and phenomenal, with the crowning jewel being the first woman in history to ever spawn five #1 singles from a single album. That, the 69 consecutive weeks within the Top 10, the 2.6 million copies, the feature film, high grossing tour, and the philanthropy is all more the reason why Billboard has named Ms. Perry, Woman of the Year.

And here’s a video and excerpt from Katy‘s interview with Billboard:

I have lots of songs and ideas. I know exactly the record I want to make next. I know the artwork, the coloring and the tone, but I’m not in the studio yet. So it’s a little like painting the baby’s room blue before knowing it’s actually a boy. I have to let the music take shape first. I even know what type of tour I’m doing next. I’ll be very pleased if the vision I have in my head becomes a reality. But I have to honor the music. I won’t try and duplicate what I did last time. That would be silly. It’s not of any interest for me to try and outdo myself at every corner. Eventually you just like pop, explode. It’s like a Jenga game. How tall can you get before you just fall the fuck over? I am doing little things here and there. I was just in the studio with another artist and it turned out all right. I’m going to start dusting off the wheels just a little: [I'm] going in with a couple of people in November and try out fun collaborations that maybe people wouldn’t imagine.

What do you guys think about the news? Like I said, it sounds like Katy‘s been putting in hella work and even though Marion Cotillard is my personal Woman Of The Year, I’ll take Katy, lol! And I just love this cover for her– she really does look like a Pop princess and I kinda want those panda earrings. If you watch the video she has some very interesting thoughts about women in music, particularly the women she grew up listening to (and how they compare to the women she wasn’t allowed to listen to).

Is Katy Perry the right choice for music’s Woman Of The Year?

“We need an army because the mainstream hates women… A lot of kids are more sexualized now than they were years ago and I’m not sure it’s a coincidence… Like fucking Katy Perry spraying people with her fucking dick, her fucking cum gun coming on fucking children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with ‘I wanna see your [pea] cock’ on it… Don’t prey on vulnerable people like that. Don’t encourage little girls to get dressed up, to have cupcakes on their tits to get people to lick them off, ’cause that’s what you’re insinuating.” Alice Glass fro Crystal Castles. ever since i read this, i can’t help but agree. she markets to young girls with her childish costumes, yet is singing about adult themes.

Wasn’t she Billboard’s Woman of the year like last year or the year before when her album first came out? I feel like this should be old news.
