Nicki Minaj Blames Target And Walmart For Bad Album Sales Of ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up’

Poor Nicki Minaj! Her latest album re-release for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up has not been going so well. That is a bummer… but something tells me she’ll be just fine. Anyhoo, the rapper recently spoke out about the stores that are (or are not) selling the album and pretty much blamed chains like Target and Walmart for the wack album sales. Because… yeah. Click inside to get the deets!

The HuffPost has the report:

Nicki Minaj knows exactly where to place the blame for the less-than-stellar sales of her album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up.”

When asked in an interview with Power 105.1 if it was hard to purchase “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up,” Minaj responded, “It is hard to get the album because the stores basically said that the last few re-releases they had put out did not do well and they didn’t want to take a chance. So, Target and Walmart is not selling the album. Target is actually my biggest retailer — they’ve always been my biggest retailer. They’ve sold the most Nicki Minaj albums ever, so, thank you, Target. But I wish you could’ve sold this one.”

Minaj continued, “Best Buy only took limited because they’re like ‘Oh no, we want to play it safe,’ so it’s very difficult and it kind of sets you up to fail.”

Now, this is all kind of funny given that most people (I assume) don’t actually get their albums from these stores… but okay, I guess she’s right. If they don’t stock the album then that could certainly have an effect on sales. But I’m sure that’s not the only reason The Re-Up didn’t do so well. Re-releases are kind of a weird concept to me anyway, even though I do see the benefit for the artist.

I didn’t really have plans to cop the album anyway, but Nicki also left a really bad taste in my mouth with her E! reality series. I made it through one of the three episodes and I was like… ugh. Waaayyyy too much diva ish for me, lol. And I actually kind of liked her before that… or, at least in small doses I did.

What do y’all think? Is Nicki right to blame the retailers? Or is she having a hard time taking responsibility for her own ish, like some other people we know?

It’s cute that Nicki thinks that if Target and Walmart had carried her album that more people would have bought it. Cute.

Pretty sure anyone that wanted it got their hands on it another way. Her album sales would be the same.

SO it has nothing to do with the fact that her music is insipid drivel?…

  • Joanna

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. She’s always so full of herself that she can’t see it’s her music no one is responding to and not the lack of availability that’s causing her album sales to plummet. Just because she’s signed to Lil Wayne’s label (which by the way has much better artists on it like Drake) she thinks she should be having all kinds of crazy success. Let’s see how much success she has once Lil Wayne formally retires ;)

She is totally correct. I mean I buy all my albums from Target and Walmart and they didn’t have it so I just didn’t get it. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Sorry your pseudo new album had only one good new song on it. Truth!

  • Sam

Shannon, are you finally hoping on to the eff Nicki train? Cuz I’m the conductor, choo choo!!!

    • Shannon

Sam, LMAO!!! You know I try to rep for Nicki when I can, HOWEVER, after watching her on that reality show I was honestly disappointed. BEFORE she blew up like cray I’d seen an MTV2 special of hers and I thought she seemed really cool. I hate to be cliche– but the fame has REALLY changed her! She was so obnoxious on this new show and she had the nerve to complain about how people don’t really give her enough props for being a pioneer for BLACK WOMEN, but it was sooo ridiculous because you know she was sitting there with her blonde hair and blue eyes and I was like… c’mon now. I have no problem with rocking the Marilyn Monroe look but when you do, don’t take time out of your day to ask for recognition as some kind of, like, black feminist soldier or something, lol! She was really so ridiculous…

I won’t say eff her (I actually thought ‘Freedom’ was okay) but she’s not really on my good side right now. I’m sure she’s okay with that, but I wish I could rep for her because sooo many people don’t, lol! But yeah, no. She’s outta line…

Um…she’s an idiot. If someone REALLY wanted to get her album – they would find a way to get it(other retailers/ONLINE). It’s not that they’re going to make an impulse purchase(walking ALL the way to the electronics) and be like “Yo…I could REALLY use a rerelease of an album that ALREADY sounds like a RE-RELEASE…”

I mean, the single that’s leading the rerelease is not even that great…so I think she should place the blame on the snoozefest of the lead single. That’s where her problems are REALLY at.

Rereleases are intended to BOOST sales…so yeah…there’s that. lol. I mean, Shakira rereleased her album with “Hips Don’t Lie”(a thousand years ago), and the song went on to sell 10 MILLION copies. Nicki, please sit down.

maybe shes just too stubborn to realize people dont want to keep paying for the same shit? this is like the 3rd re release. pink friday should haven been moved on from along time ago. and i read that the next album is ‘Pink Friday: The Pinkprint’…that doesnt help either. she needs to drop pink friday & the gimmcks all together and start fresh.
