Recently we celebrated Eddie Redmayne’s hotness (and talented-ness) and I found myself really wanting to watch My Week With Marilyn again (Eddie played alongside Michelle Williams in the Oscar-nominated film). There have been tons of Marilyn Monroe biopics and when they’re done right, they can be pretty awesome. Trent reported eons ago (back in 2010) that Naomi Watts (who’s currently filming the Princess Diana biopic) would be taking the lead in Blonde, and now the project is finally taking off. Complex has the report:
With movie biopics being the current craze in Hollywood, it should come as no surprise that a new film based on the life of Marilyn Monroe is going into production. But this one should actually catch your attention because it is being directed by Andrew Dominik, who has done tremendous work on movies like Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and the upcoming Killing Them Softly.
Based on the book Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates, this biopic will span Monroe’s entire life – beginning with her as a child and ending with her death, according to an interview the director did with The Playlist. He elaborated on the project by saying, “It’s sort of a Polanski descent-into-madness-type movie. It’s about this orphan girl who gets lost in the woods.”
Naomi Watts is attached to star as Monroe at the moment, which Dominik will likely shoot next year.
Blonde sounds potentially awesome. I haven’t seen Dominik’s work but I heard great things about The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and I loved Brad Pitt in the trailer for Killing Them Softly.
Anybody else into the idea of another Marilyn biopic? I’m assuming that a Polanski-esque take on her story will definitely bring something unique to the collection of films about the star, so I’m into it! I also just read my first Joyce Carol Oates novel earlier this year (Beasts) and it was intense. I think we can expect good things!
