Back in August we saw the amazing (totally tear-jerking) trailer for Ewan McGregor‘s new film about the southeast Asian tsunami, The Impossible. Today we get a closer look at Naomi Watts‘s role in the film as McGregor‘s wife, who gets separated from him and her other son during the disaster. The film was based on a true story and it’s been getting some serious Oscar buzz for some time now. When I first watched the trailer I couldn’t help but question the fact that a tsunami movie was being made to specifically tell the story of a European family on vacation (rather than, say, an Asian, Indian, or North African family). As it turns out, Maria Belon (the real-life woman on whom the story is based) is a doctor from Spain who was on vacation with her family when the tsunami hit.
Peep the featurette to learn more about the story and the amazing woman who inspired the movie.
